Troy Richard Trengove faces court charged over alleged Royal Park shooting

One suspect is still at large while two men charged over an alleged attempted murder have faced court as a strange connection is uncovered.

Tiser Explains: How a criminal trial works

The man arrested over the terrifying alleged shooting of another man is a self-confessed friend of now deceased, but one-time most wanted man in Australia, Rodney Clavell.

That man, Troy Richard Trengove, 51, on Thursday appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrate Court by video link from custody on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm without a licence and possessing ammunition.

According to court documents, the alleged victim of the shooting is 47-year-old Royal Park man John Gabby Rahme.

Trengove, of Parafield Gardens, made no application for bail and will be remanded in prison for at least three months.

Clavell fatally shot himself after a 13-hour standoff with police in the Adelaide CBD after a 17-day manhunt.

At the time of the Clavell standoff, Trengove made a public online post saying he was friends with him and said he was not a risk to the hostages he had holed up in the King William Street brothel.

There is no suggestion Trengove was involved with the standoff or manhunt.

According to court documents, Trengove is charged with a second count of possessing a firearm.

Those documents allege he was caught in possession of an improvised “zip” pistol on the day of the alleged shooting as well as a “pen gun” the following day at Waterloo Corner.

Trengove was arrested on Wednesday evening at St Kilda, shortly after police revealed during a court appearance for Tyrone James Doyle-Tarrant they were seeking another two men of the alleged attempted murder.

Police will allege Mr Doyle-Tarrant and Mr Trengove were involved in the shooting of Mr Rahme, which occurred on Tuesday evening about 7.30pm at Brandwood Street, Royal Park.

Mr Doyle-Tarrant was arrested by police and STAR Group officers at his Croydon Park home.

A police prosecutor said all forms of bail were opposed.

Mr Sprod remanded Trengove to next appear alongside Mr Doyle-Tarrant.

A police spokesman confirmed the third suspect wanted over the alleged shooting was still at large, with investigations continuing.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au,” he said.
