Findon man James Skeffington celebrated a massive 300 senior games with the Port Adelaide Soccer Club on the weekend with a huge 4-0 win over Seaford.
Mr Skeffington played a key role in the weekend’s win, with a set piece delivery that led to the Pirates’ second goal and also scoring the third goal, with a stunning strike into the top corner.
‘Skeff’, 31, began his career with the Pirates in the under-11s and started playing seniors back in 2006 when he was 16.
The Port Adelaide Pirates are the oldest soccer club in South Australia, established in 1903, and are currently competing in the State League 2 division.
With the exception of four years playing for the Croydon Kings, Mr Skeffington’s career has always been with the Pirates, starting there after catching the eye of coaches while playing soccer at school.
Growing up on the Lefevre Peninsula at Semaphore, playing with the Pirates was a natural fit.
Mr Skeffington said reaching the 300 game milestone with the club was a “pretty surreal feeling”.
“It’s pretty special and I am proud of the achievement,’ he said.
“This club has been a massive part of my life – I’ve spent over half my life with them – so it’s a good milestone to get to.”
Mr Skeffington said there’s a strong feeling of momentum at the club at the moment, especially with local Port Adelaide icons Pirate Life Brewing coming on board as club sponsors
“We’ve built some really good foundations and the people in charge of the club have put us in a good position financially,” he said.
Sitting on top of the State League 2 ladder at the moment, with five wins, a draw and no losses, Saturday’s game again Seaford capped off a great start to the year for the team.
