A Ferryden Park woman was being followed by a car and feared for her family’s safety when she stabbed a man at a Woodville South intersection, a court has heard.
Simone Louise Richardson, 32, appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrate Court heard on Thursday charged with aggravated assault that causes harm with a weapon.
The charge relates to an incident that occurred on Tuesday, October 20, when Richardson was alleged to have stabbed a motorist in the stomach at Woodville South.
Police allege at about 6.10pm on October 20 an altercation occurred between a man driving a silver Holden Commodore station wagon and a woman driving a grey Honda Accord sedan.
The incident happened at the intersection of Trimmer Parade and Findon Road.
While there was no collision, it is alleged once stopped at the intersection, the woman exited her car and stabbed the man in the stomach with a knife, while he was in the driver’s seat.
A 53-year-old man from Hendon was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre for treatment of minor injuries.
Defence lawyer Stacey Carter said Richardson was a single mother to three children with no criminal history.
Richardson did not appear in court, with the court hearing she had attempted to commit suicide twice since the incident.
Ms Carter said the case could potentially be a matter of excessive self defence.
“A man and his wife were following her in a vehicle, tried to drive her off the road and there was an altercation,” she said.
“She gets out of her car, to keep them away from her children, and there’s an allegation she has stabbed him (the driver) with a kitchen knife that she had in one of her kid’s lunch boxes.
“Having watched the (video) footage, it is clear the man tries to grab her and pull her in the car.
“She’s very distressed about the matter.”
The court did not hear whether the parties were known to each other.
The matter has been listed for a pre-trial conference in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court in March.
Richardson’s bail continues.
