A Kilburn man has pleaded guilty to speeding under the influence of drugs and alcohol while his baby was in the car.

Ryan Frank Knight was clocked by police driving at 98km/h on a 60km/h stretch of Main North Road last March while his eight-month-old baby was in the car.

After being pulled over at Gepps Cross, Knight, 39, recorded a positive drug test for traces of cannabis and methamphetamine.

His blood alcohol reading was 0.053, just over the legal limit of 0.05.

In sentencing on Tuesday, Magistrate Stefan Metanomski said the circumstances related to this offending were very serious.

“Not only did he have drugs in his system, he had alcohol in his system and to make matters worse he was speeding excessively and he had a young child in the car,” he said.

“It never ceases to amaze me that people can put not only themselves in danger but have no regard for the people they supposedly love.”

Knight pleaded guilty to all charges.

He was handed a 12-month disqualification from driving and almost $4000 in fines, as well as a $1920 vehicle impoundment fee.

A conviction was recorded.
