A woman viciously attacked her ex-partner and another woman – in the company of her accomplice – because she was fuelled by jealousy.

Nola Elaine Inman, 40, and Adilla Chol, 27, were sentenced for the joint enterprise which left lasting impacts on their victims.

The Adelaide District Court on Thursday heard that Inman and Chol attended the victim’s house on July 21, 2018 at Kilburn.

“Ms Inman had previously been in a relationship with (the homeowner) and her actions that night were fuelled by jealousy,” Judge Paul Muscat said during sentencing.

The court heard the man had met another woman earlier that day and invited her back to his house.

“Upon realising that (the woman) was present, Ms Inman and Ms Chol entered the house through the front window,” Judge Muscat said.

Inman and Chol assaulted the man in the hallway.

“Ms Inman punched (the man) multiple times to the head and kicked him to the groin,” Judge Muscat said.

The court heard Chol used a door jamb to strike the man, making contact with his back and shoulder.

Inman and Chol then entered the bedroom where the woman was.

“Ms Inman then assaulted (the woman), striking her multiple times to the head and face causing fractures to both of her eye sockets,” Judge Muscat said.

They then fled the scene.

The court heard the man suffered lacerations and bruising, while the woman required surgery on her face.

“He (the man) expressed his guilt placing (the woman) in that position and of the memories of hearing her screams during the vicious attack upon her as he ran to find help,” Judge Muscat said.

“Neither of them deserved to be set upon that night.”

Inman, of Blair Athol, and Chol, of Findon, had previously pleaded guilty to assault causing harm.

The court heard the “explosive violence” was not characteristic for Inman who had a traumatic upbringing.

“She has demonstrated incredible resilience throughout her life,” Judge Muscat said.

The court heard Inman, who is a mother, had plans to move back to Western Australia where her family is.

Judge Muscat sentenced Inman to three years jail, with a non parole period of 16-months.

“The attack which Ms Inman perpetrated upon (the woman) was particularly brutal and prolonged,” he said.

“The physical and psychological impact upon (the woman) has obviously been profound.”

The sentence was suspended on a 18-month good behaviour bond, due to Inman’s good prospects of rehabilitation.

The court heard Chol, who is from Sudan, had previously suffered a traumatic brain injury.

“Caring for her son is Ms Chol’s priority,” Judge Muscat said.

“Ms Chol appears to be a valued member of the community,” Judge Muscat said.

The court heard the key issue in Chol’s offending was her alcohol abuse.

Judge Muscat took into account that Chol had spent 55 days in custody and more than six months on home detention and discharged her with no further penalty.

A conviction was recorded.
