A long-awaited housing development at Cement Hill is a step closer with a plan to rezone the Seacliff Park site now out for community consultation.
Marion and Holdfast Bay councils have jointly released a plan to amend the former quarry’s zoning to allow medium-density housing of up to six storeys.
Shops, businesses and community facilities would also be allowed.
The site has historically been used for industrial activities, including quarrying and concrete manufacturing and as a depot for a construction company.
The land on Scholefield Rd falls within Seacliff, Seacliff Park and Marino’s boundaries and is therefore within both Marion and Holdfast Bay’s districts.

The two councils are jointly undertaking community consultation and will hold a public hearing at Brighton Civic Centre on October 24.
The 7.8ha block — left vacant for decades — is owned by a company called Seacliff Oceanview Estate, which plans to build hundreds of homes there.
Planning Minister Stephan Knoll will have the final say on whether the amendment is approved.
