An ambitious plan to breathe life into a tired section of West Lakes Boulevard has been unveiled, replete with a recreation facility and cafe.

The development proposal, tendered to PlanSA, would see a tired section of the thoroughfare between Tapleys Hill Road and Port Road undergo a significant transformation.

Alongside an indoor recreation facility and cafe, the proposal, for Accord Property by Edwardstown-based Woolcock Group, would see a significant section of the land become a light industrial and bulky goods warehouse.

It comes as construction continues on the nearby $25m Hendon Central shopping centre, located just less than two kilometres away and due to be finished in January.

The application for West Lakes Boulevard shows a parcel of land off to the side of an existing warehouse would home the building.

It indicates there will be thirteen tenancies on the site across two double-storey buildings.

While it remains unclear what companies will fill the tenancies, by definition “bulky goods outlets”, of which the application includes three, are home furniture stores and the like.

The SA Planning and Design Code describes indoor recreation facilities as sporting courts, bowling alleys, yoga studios, indoor skating rinks, indoor swimming centre, squash courts, rock climbing centres, trampoline centres and dance studios.

The plans, however, hint at the possible construction of an indoor basketball court.

Accord Group, a property development and funds management company, is also behind a mammoth development proposed for Port Adelaide called Central Pier.

That proposal would see a section off Francis Street in the heart of the Port transformed into a 12 hectare warehouse and logistics precinct.

Public submissions on the plans will be open until January 4.
