Construction of a new $25 million shopping centre in Hendon has commenced.

Known as Hendon Central, the 15,000sq m complex will feature a Romeo’s Foodland and up to 10 specialty stores on Tapleys Hill Rd.

KFC and Hungry Jack’s outlets will also operate from ‘pad sites’ within the centre’s car park area, which will include parking for 160 vehicles.

Thirteen Commercial director Anthony Lenzi, who’s heading up the project, said the complex would become a major food and services hub for residents in Adelaide’s western suburbs when it opens late next year.

“Hendon Central will provide the inner west with an authentic community hub, which perfectly meets the needs of local families,” he said.

“The combination of black steel, recycled timbers and exposed red brick in the new centre will provide shoppers with a rustic, casual and convenient environment, and will become a destination for specialty food and services in Adelaide’s inner west.

“The development also offers the local community communal seating areas as well as an undercover alfresco area for shoppers to enjoy.”

The development is expected to create more than 70 jobs during construction.

Mr Lenzi said a leasing campaign was ongoing, with a number of specialty stores, liquor outlets and health services tenants close to securing retail space in the complex.
