The man accused of last week’s shooting at Woodville North has not applied for bail.

David Jeffrey Piening, 38, Woodville Park, made his first appearance on the matter in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, via video-link.

Police arrested Piening on Tuesday morning and charged him with attempted murder.

It came after police were called to Owen Street, Woodville North at 12.30pm on Thursday, January 21, following reports of gunshots.

Following the incident, a 45-year-old man presented at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with gunshot wounds to the legs.

He was transferred to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Piening was denied bail following his arrest.

Police said it was not a random incident and the people involved were believed to be known to each other.

The court heard it was a complex case, in which DNA evidence was important.

A lawyer did not appear for Piening.

Magistrate Stefan Metanomski listed the matter for a committal hearing in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in May.
