The alleged victim of a wild stabbing at Brompton on Wednesday morning suffered a punctured lung and is still in hospital, a court has heard.

The fresh details emerged as the name of the man police have charged over it is revealed.

That man, Christopher James Clarke, 26, appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court from custody charged with aggravated assault causing serious harm.

The court heard Clarke had a long criminal history of breaching his bail conditions as well as convictions for carrying weapons, aggravated assault and theft.

Police will allege Clarke allegedly stabbed a 24-year-old man in the chest on Wednesday morning.

The man was found on West Street at Brompton before he was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment, where he remains more than 24-hours after he was allegedly stabbed.

In a statement, SA Police said they believed the alleged stabbing did not happen on West Street, but the 24-year-old travelled there by car.

The statement alleged it was “not a random incident” and that Clarke and the 24-year-old were known to each other.
