More than 200 shrubs have been stolen from Charles Sturt Council land in Cheltenham since August.
The council – which stumped up $1500 for the since pilfered plants – is appealing for any information on the thefts from the public.
A planting project started on Buller Tce on Tuesday, August 6, and 70 kangaroo paws were stolen the following weekend.
Another 150 plants have been pinched over the past few weekends, including 12 dwarf melaleucas, 18 grevilleas and a banksia tree.
It meant a total of 220 plants had been stolen to date.
Charles Sturt Council chief executive Paul Sutton was disappointed by the theft.
“It is common for a few plants to be stolen from time to time, but this is the most from one location for a few years,” Mr Sutton said.
“It’s likely someone would use the plants for a private landscape job rather than on sell them.”
The council has asked anyone to report suspicious activity to 8408 1111.
We are really disappointed that a large number of shrubs have been stolen from our landscaping of Buller Terrace, Cheltenham.
