Bene Aged Care will create a new three-storey accommodation building at Woodville North with 60 bedrooms under plans lodged with the State Commission Assessment Panel.
The aged care provider, which already operates out of the site, will demolish some of its existing Torrens Road facility to make way for the new building.
A key heritage feature of the existing facility – the former Woodville Private Hospital – will be retained and refurbished under plans lodged with the SCAP by the Italian Benevolent Foundation.
A planning report prepared by Future Urban includes retention, restoration and re-use of the former Woodville Private Hospital as the main entry and reception area, with chapel, community hub, hairdresser and cafe/restaurant facilities.
The report also includes construction of a three storey accommodation building comprising a total of 60 bedrooms and associated dining and lounge areas together with a central courtyard facility.
There will also be construction of a single storey services building comprising kitchen, laundry, plant, maintenance, switch room, store, communications and staffrooms.
Plans also include establishment of a 26 space car park to the front of the services building, with access from both Jelley Street and Leslie Street East; and the establishment of a 20 space car park on the site with access off Jelley Street.
Bene St Clair, as it is now known, and the former Woodville Private Hospital and Nursing Home have occupied the site since the 1970s.
Submissions on the proposal close on April 13.
Bene Aged Care declined to comment on the project while it is still going through the approval process.
