Barrio Developments lodge plans for seven-storey apartment building in Glenelg North
Plans have been lodged for a seven-storey apartment building at Glenelg North — the third in the Glenelg district in a month. And it would include a piece of a Glenelg icon.

A new seven-storey serviced and residential apartment building would be built in Glenelg North under plans lodged with the State Government — with a twist of Glenelg history.
The apartment block, at 2 Canning St, would include 38 serviced apartments for short and long-term tourists on the bottom two floors and 20 residential apartments above.
According to plans lodged with the State Commission Assessment Panel, it would incorporate recycled timber on its facade from the now defunct Buffalo restaurant which sat on the banks of the Patawalonga River, opposite the development site, for decades.
Sandstone from the house currently on the block would also be used.
A mixture of two and three-storey bedroom apartments would be built, that were expected to cost between $499,000 and $1.4 million.
The Barrio Developments project would be constructed next to the existing 13-storey Aquarius apartment building.
The firm also has approval for a six-storey apartment building at 22 Adelphi Tce.
However, Adelphi Tce is zoned for five storeys.
Barrio Developments managing director Glen Vollebregt said there was a precedent for taller buildings on the waterfront strip and it would bring economic benefit to the area.
“Other seven-storey developments in Glenelg have been approved recently,” Mr Vollebregt said.
“I hope to be able to achieve the same, especially as the height and position of the building do not cause major overshadowing and it is significantly smaller than other existing and future developments in its immediate vicinity.”
The development application followed another from Scott Salisbury Group last month for a seven-storey apartment block at 19-20 Adelphi Tce and a plans for a seven-storey extension of Bay Waters in Glenelg.
The plans for 2 Canning St are out for community consultation until Monday, July 29.
