A Findon man has been denied bail after he was alleged to have robbed St Clair bottle shop and threatened that he had a gun.

Robert Gordon Rigney, 38, appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with committing theft by force

Police allege at about 5.10pm on Tuesday, January 12, Rigney pulled up to the Liquorland bottle shop on Cheltenham Parade on a black push bike with straight handlebars.

He allegedly entered the store and picked up three bottles of alcohol.

Police allege when he was challenged by a staff member he stated he was in possession of a gun.

A firearm was not seen and no one was physically injured.

Rigney is alleged to have placed the bottles in his bag and left the area on the push bike before being seen riding south on Cheltenham Parade.

On Wednesday, Western District detectives attended a Findon address and arrested Rigney.

He was charged with committing theft using force.

In court, it was heard Rigney had been on bail on other matters at the time of the alleged incident.

Rigney’s defence lawyer said there were potential identification issues with the case.

Magistrate John Wells denied bail.

“Refusal of bail is made on the basis of the seriousness nature of the offending and the allegation of offending on bail,” Mr Wells said.

The matter will next come before the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court in April.
