Motorbike hoons racing on the streets of Adelaide’s western suburbs have residents fearing for the safety of their children and wanting police to take action, before someone is hurt.

Hoons on motorbikes are racing through the western suburbs in the early hours of the weekends, prompting residents to call for more police to patrol the area.

Residents in Cowandilla, Mile End and Torrensville in particular have complained of the dangerous riding, which keeps them awake at night and fearful of an accident.

Brianna Telenko, of Torrensville, said the racing happened mostly on weekends, but she had also heard “very loud motorcycles” during the day on Henley Beach and Marion roads.

“You can hear them from quite far off,” Ms Telenko said.

“They are very loud motorcycles racing through the streets.

“I’ve started to be concerned about kids playing in the street.”

She said she also worried about other motorists and pedestrians in the area, with the hoons also racing through side streets.

“It’s so loud, it can’t be a standard bike, it must have had something done to it,” Ms Telenko said.

“More police presence would be good.”

Residents have taken to social media to complain of the behaviour.

“It happens all the time,” one resident wrote.

“I’ve called SAPOL about it more than once.”

Another said: “I think they go on Rankine Rd, Henley Beach Rd, South Rd, Sir Donald Bradman Drive and Marion Rd.”

“I’ve seen two bikes around 10.30/11pm.”

A SAPOL spokesperson said police were aware roads in the western suburbs were being used by hoon motorcycle riders in the early hours of the weekend.
“Traffic patrols proactively patrol the area and respond to calls from the public and Road Policing Section currently conduct numerous activities around the known hoon hot spots in Western District,” they said.

“The policing of this type of offending does pose some challenges however timely reporting from the community and accurate descriptions will assist police in identifying those responsible.”

They said 12 motorbike riders and two passengers had died on South Australian roads so far this year.

Residents can report hoon behaviour to police on 131 444.
