A vile predator who lured a boy to his house on promises of seeing his model trains paid him $5 before holding him down and sexually assaulting him, a court has heard.

A pedophile lured a boy to his house on promises of showing him his trains before holding him down and sexually assaulting him, a court has heard.

Kym Hodgson, 69, was jailed for historic sex offences after he preyed on a child for his own devious interests.

The District Court heard Hodgson, who was in his 30s at the time, met the 12-year-old victim in the 1980s in Whyalla.

The court heard the victim’s parents were friends with Hodgson’s parents and they both regularly attended the Anderson Raceway.

One night at the raceway, Hodgson invited the victim to go to his parent’s address to look at his train setup.

They went into his bedroom.

“The offender put $5 on the bed saying ‘Look there is five bucks for you on the bed for being my friend’,” Judge Paul Cuthbertson said during sentencing.

The court heard the victim climbed onto the bed to take the money when Hodgson held him down and sexually assaulted him.

The victim reported the offending to police in 2019.

Hodgson, of Cadell, pleaded guilty to indecent assault and unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 17.

“He (the victim) has had recurrent nightmares and the situation still haunts him to this day with his own children,” Judge Cuthbertson said.

The court heard Hodgson, who is now a pensioner, previously worked as a forklift driver and in farm work.

The court heard Hodgson, who is intellectually disabled, had previously been convicted of indecent exposure and possessing child pornography.

“He attended a course from which he learned about the wrongfulness of paedophilia but continues unfortunately to be sexually attracted to children,” Judge Cuthbertson said.

Judge Cuthbertson sentenced Hodgson to two years and four months jail, with a non-parole period of one year and two months.

“He took advantage on this occasion of the youthfulness of his victim and attracted him with the promise of letting him see a model train layout in his own home where he had invited him back,” he said.

“He then forced himself upon the child.”
