Rhys Johns and Jessica Pitt to be sentenced for drug dealing enterprise

A meth addict's life was in chaos when she was running a drug enterprise with her bad-boy partner. Now she'll have an anxious wait to see if her bad decisions land her in jail.

A woman was in the throes of a significant addiction when she involved herself in her boyfriend’s enterprise, where over $20,000 of meth was found.

Jessica Alice Pitt, 24, faced sentencing submissions in the District Court, for her joint drug enterprise with ex-boyfriend Rhys Aaron Johns, 30.

Police searched a Parafield Gardens residence on January 7 last year and found 83g of methamphetamine, valued at more than $20,000.

Pitt was then detected with 15g of methamphetamine in April 2021.

Johns and Pitt, both of Parafield Gardens, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.

Pitt also pleaded guilty to multiple counts of breaching bail and drug driving.

Benjamin Armstrong, for Pitt, told the court she was in throes of a significant meth addiction at the time.

“This was a young woman who was in a fairly chaotic state at the time," he said.

“The chaos has now resolved itself but it unfortunately took some time.”

The court heard Pitt was using up to 1g of methamphetamine per day.

Mr Armstrong previously told the court the amount of methamphetamine found by police in January was significantly larger than what the couple would usually buy but was purchased in expectation of “significant use”, with some destined for sale.

“My client’s partner won a significant amount of money ($15,000) on some online gambling,” Mr Armstrong said.

The court heard the methamphetamine was purchased on credit in anticipation of the winnings coming in but police put a freeze on it after the raid.

Mr Armstrong said Pitt resorted back to selling drugs after Johns was taken into custody.

“There was a significant amount of money owed by her partner, she was under various pressures to pay that back,” he said.

Mr Armstrong said Pitt was no longer in a relationship with Johns.

“(She was) a very young woman who in the throes of grief made some very poor decisions, both in terms of her own drug use … and indeed as she now recognises in her choice of partners,” he said.

The court previously heard Johns was smoking up to 3g of meth per day and had an “overwhelming and voracious” addiction.

“That has been his dead end life and he recognises that it’s a life of someone who’s destined to get nowhere,” Nick Vadasz, for Johns, said at the time.

The court heard Pitt was currently abstinent from drugs and undertaking rehabilitation programs.

Judge Liesl Kudelka will sentence Pitt and Johns later this month.
