Two South Australia Lotto players claim winning $1m tickets

Two different newly-minted millionaires who unknowingly held onto winning $1m lotto tickets sold in our state, have come forward to claim their prize.

A north eastern family has come forward to claim one of the two winning $1 million tickets in Monday night’s Weekday Windfall draw 4410.

What started as a mother’s superstition, has turned a Newton family of four into overnight millionaires.

“It’s a funny story. I was cleaning my house the other day and I had the itchiest palm,” one of the family members told Lotto officials.

“I told Mum about it later and she said, ‘That means money! You should put a lotto ticket on!’

“Then she said, ‘I’ll put in half’. Of course, my brother and sister didn’t want to miss out, so they chipped in too.

“I used my usual numbers. I’ve been using them for over 40 years!

The family described themselves as a “family syndicate” and were moved to tears, when they received the incredible news from Lotto officials.

“I’ve been crying all day,” they said. “This is good karma coming back to us.”

“I can’t believe it. I’m carrying this ticket in my purse that’s worth a million dollars. I’m terrified I’ll lose it.

“I joke so much that my family doesn’t believe me. I said, ‘I sent you the bloody ticket, it says $1 million!’, but they still want to see it in person.”

The woman said she has already started dreaming of moving to a “warmer whereabouts”.

“Well, I would love to go overseas. I have a couple of places on my bucket list.” she said.

“I think a girls’ trip could definitely be on the cards.”

The second mystery millionaire winner also came forward to claim their $1m prize win, however, they chose to keep their anonymity and remain a forever mystery.

Spokesman Khat McIntyre congratulated Adelaide for “creating two new millionaires”.

“Our mystery winners are likely going about their day completely oblivious to the fact they’ve won $1 million each in last night’s Weekday Windfall draw,” Ms McIntyre said on Tuesday, before the winners came forward.

“Imagine if the ticket that’s sitting in your glove box, tucked in your purse or by your bedside table is worth $1 million.”

The Newton family bought a ‘division one’ ticket – one of four – at Metro Newsagency Newton inside Newtown Shopping Centre, while another second winner nabbed their lucky ticket at Woodville North Deli, located on Hanson Rd.

The winning numbers were 13, 7, 15, 29, 5 and 11, and supplementary numbers were 20 and 38.

The Lotto team had no way of contacting the ticket holders because the winning entries were not registered to a player card or online account – and had publicly urged players to check their tickets then come forward to claim the jackpot.

Metro Newsagency Newton owner Chuong Nguyen said his shop will now print a first division prize winner banner to celebrate the exciting news.

“We are honoured to be an outlet that has sold a division one winning ticket,” Mr Nguyen said.

“It feels even better as we just marked the seven-year anniversary of our shop opening so it felt like a special reward!”

If you believe you hold the winning ticket, contact The Lotto on 131 868 to begin the process of claiming your prize.

It comes after a Blakeview dad became an overnight multi-millionaire, after scoring more than $3.7 million in the weekend’s Saturday X Lotto draw.
