Tucker Tennis at Brighton will be latest SA business closure after serving the community for more than 25 years

A southern suburbs tennis shop has made the decision to shut up shop after more than 25 years of catering to the community’s tennis needs.
Tucker Tennis, on Brighton Rd at Brighton, will close its doors in June after being run by Robin and Bruce Tucker – both of whom have been number one tennis players in the state.
Bruce Tucker said while the store had gathered a loyal following in the local tennis community over the years, now was the right time to close its doors.
“I’m retiring, we’ve had a fantastic run over the last 25 years,” he said.
“I’m 70 next year, it’s time to go and do some other things.
“It wasn’t due to cost of living issues, we certainly haven’t gone broke, now is just the right time.”
On Friday, David Wittwer – a loyal customer – posted to the Brighton Beach South Australia Community Group to announce the closure.
“Shout out to Bruce Tucker – Tucker Tennis has been serving Brighton and surrounding suburbs for over 25 years,” he wrote.
“He is calling game, set and match in June and no more tennis shop.
“If you need a restring, new grip or racquet head on in before it’s too late.”
A Facebook page for the shop said Mr Tucker has always gone above and beyond for his customers.
“Bruce is always happy to give advice and can tell a yarn or two that will have you in stitches,” it said.
“His tennis stories and experiences are priceless.
“Bruce runs the shop with a wealth of knowledge and is the go to guy for all players tennis needs.”
Tucker Tennis will become the latest in a string of business closures across SA already this year.
