The Woolshed on Hindley has sacked at least six workers following an investigation into the popular CBD nightclub’s lewd promotion offering free drinks to patrons in exchange for their bras.

The Advertiser understands the dismissals were enforced following the investigation, which saw the venue fined $3897 for operating with “inadequate” CCTV.

Liquor and licensing regulator Consumer and Business Services conducted the investigation and found the club had breached the General Code of Practice by offering gender-based promotions, but also breached the Late Night Code of Practice by having insufficient CCTV coverage in the venue.

The nightclub was also issued a third expiation for providing free liquor to a customer after midnight. The code prohibits the supply of free liquor between 12.01am and 7am.

It comes as a former worker revealed to The Advertiser some of the alleged practices previously employed by staff at the venue, including allegedly serving free drinks to “attractive” girls and letting in highly intoxicated patrons so long as they “spend their money”.

The former worker, who The Advertiser has chosen not to name, said they had allegedly witnessed “intoxicated” patrons permitted entry to the venue despite looking like “zombies”.

“The levels of inebriation they are letting in … I’ve never seen anything like it,” they said.

“They almost pick you up off the ground and pull you up.

“If you’re going to spend money inside they have no issues with how intoxicated you are.”

Following the investigation, the operators of the Woolshed were forced to upgrade their CCTV capabilities – with the operation of the new system reviewed by CBS inspectors.

The promotion which launched the investigation was posted to Instagram in June.

“Hanging your bra is uncomfortable, hang it up in the shed and let loose,” the post read.

“That means you as well boys.”

The post stated women would receive one free drink for an A cup bra size, two free drinks for a B cup and three free drinks for a C cup.

Liquor and Gambling Commissioner Dini Soulio said while theme nights and other promotions can be “a great way for licensed venues to attract customers”, but there must be appropriate standards.

“Gender-based promotions – including those that objectify people – are not only out of line with community expectations, but are in breach of this Code,” Mr Soulio said.

A spokesman for Consumer and Business Services said they monitor all businesses in the Hindley St area and encouraged anyone to contact them if they believe they have identified a breach.

Police said they would not comment on the investigation as it was being led by Consumer and Business Services.

The Woolshed on Hindley was contacted for comment.
