Plans to build a state-of-the-art function centre in South Australia’s heart of horse racing have been revealed.
The two existing function centres and carparks will make way for the new development at Morphettville Racecourse.
Design firm Beyond Ink has lodge plans to build a new multistorey centre, saying the facility will serve as a “gateway” to the racecourse spectator areas.
A report on the development, tabled with Marion Council and the state government, said the new facility would complement the iconic main stand.
“Part of the SAJC’s master plan framework identifies the current ageing infrastructure requires redevelopment and this new pavilion will provide a new destination of choice for our patronage,” the report read.
“Once completed, it will be the main entry point to the racecourse providing a new and
vibrant customer experience.”
The Gerard Pavilion, which has now been demolished, had a total gross floor area of 900sq m and could accommodate 620 patrons seated. The Derby Pavilion is also subject to demolition.
The new function centre will have a total floor area of 1239sq m and will be capable of accommodating 1130 seated patrons.
The construction of the pavilion will remove eight parking spaces within the racecourse site.
The project is on public notification until August 27.
