Top local SA footy finals performers of the week revealed

Local SA footy finals are drawing to a close as a number of clubs battled for premiership spoils on Saturday. Here are our top performers from the weekend’s country and suburban action.

AdFL finals round two Goals of the Week

Another weekend of entertaining local SA footy action has played out as the state’s top country and suburban clubs continued to battle for silverware.

Here are our top 10 performers of the week in alphabetical order.

JACK ENRIGHT

(Henley)

Enright possesses the ability to take over a game in a number of roles and he was at his best for the Sharks as they topped Lockleys by 49 points in the division three grand final.

Covering ground as well as anyone to find plenty of the ball and create for teammates, Enright also booted a goal as his side blitzed the Demons.

BEN KENNEDY

The former Melbourne and Collingwood player was at his best for the Mudlarks as they topped reigning premier McLaren in the GSFL preliminary final.

Dominating on the ball with his work to win the contested footy and also hitting the scoreboard with two majors, Kennedy played a big part in his side booking a grand final clash with Victor Harbor this coming Saturday.

CHRIS KNAPP

(Eastern Park)

Knapp had a fantastic 2024 season in which he booted over 100 goals while playing as a midfield/forward utility but his div six grand final performance on Saturday was arguably his best of the year.

A bull in the contest, Knapp’s work to win important possessions for his side, lay big tackles and set up teammates for goalkicking opportunities won him best on ground honours as Eastern Park topped a previously undefeated Salisbury to win the big dance.

BRAYDEN LAUDER

(Kilburn)

One of Kilburn’s most consistent performers, Lauder produced another top display for the Chics in their big grand final win over Westminster OS on Saturday.

A machine in the middle who always wins important contested possessions for his side, Lauder controlled the game with his efforts and also managed a goal.

LOUIS SHARRAD

(Port District)

Sharrad has found some strong form in the latter half of the season and his performance for Ditters over the weekend was reflective of his recent play.

A strong and explosive player who always uses the footy well, Sharrad’s presence along the wing and through the midfield was integral as his side made up for its big loss to Glenunga and defeated PNU to book a grand final with the Rams.

MAX SMYTH

(Mitcham)

Mitcham key forward wreaked havoc on the Colonel Light Gardens defence during the division five grand final on Saturday to lead the Eagles to a dominant 120-55 win over the Lions.

A strong body who leads well, takes big marks and can boot goals from anywhere, Smyth kicked eight majors as his side cruised to the 2024 premiership.

STEVE SUMMERTON

(Angaston)

Former Port Adelaide player Summerton was at his best for Angaston as the Panthers upset top spot Tanunda to make the Barossa Light and Gawler FA grand final.

The vice-captain was a standout in the contest, winning plenty of the footy and distributing to teammates efficiently while also hitting the scoreboard for two majors.

JAKOB THOMSON

(Two Wells)

Two Wells big man Jakob Thomson produced one of his best performances of the year as the Roosters defeated Angle Vale in the 2024 Adelaide Plains FL A Grade grand final.

A strong utility who can play in the ruck and up front, Thomson took a high number of contested marks and kicked seven goals in his side’s 135-73 win.

JAMES WARTON

(Rostrevor OC)

Rostrevor’s top player this year, Warton had another big game as his side upset Salisbury North in the division two grand final.

A tough player who runs all day and impacts the game on the inside or outside, Warton was dominant in the contest, created a number of chances for his team and also kicked two goals as ROCS won by 11 points.

SAM WHITBREAD

(Reynella)

A star player for the Wineflies through a number of years, onballer Whitbread was a standout as his side booked a Southern Football League grand final spot with a 102-42 win over Happy Valley.

Relentless in the contest, Whitbread kicked a goal, created multiple others and was his team’s most important player when the ball and the game was there to be won.
