The complete Adelaide Footy League division ins and outs, featuring all clubs from div one to seven

Adelaide Footy League division lineups have been finalised. Here’s the clubs leaving, entering and who you’ll face in 2022 from division one through to seven.

Glenunga through to division two grand final

The 2022 Adelaide Footy League division lineups have been finalised featuring Blackfriars Old Scholars’ promotion to division five and West Croydon’s relegation to division six.

Blackfriars had been given the opportunity to move up a division and took it with open arms once West Croydon moved down.

Hounds coach Jarrad O’Riley said his team was thrilled with the promotion.

“We’ve had nothing but excitement at the club really. When you’re given this sort of opportunity like this you’ve got to take it,” O’Riley said.

“We’re super keen and we feel we owe it to our guys.”

Blackfriars fell just short of a flag last season, losing in the preliminary finals to eventual premiers Elizabeth.

O’Riley believed the team would be competitive in a higher division and said he would be hoping to play finals footy in 2022.

“We feel our list will be competitive and we also know we need to improve. Now that we’re promoted we’re talking to some guys we might be able to bring in, especially old scholars,” he said.

“I’m confident the club is in a strong spot. We played grand finals in B Grade last year and played preliminary finals in the A and C grades.

“With a young side like us, if we can get confidence up early it’ll be infectious. We’re in division five to play finals footy, there’s no doubt about that.”

With club lineups finally confirmed, here are the complete ins and outs from division one through to division seven. See who your club will line up against this season.

Promotion to division one was a long time coming for both Glenunga and Old Ignatians, who played off in an epic div two grand final last year.

Both teams have sought to bring in new recruits to bolster their lines ahead of a challenging year.

Jack Trengove and his Prince Alfred OC side will be aiming to win another flag after its impressive grand final display last year, but will face plenty of strong competition as usual in the league’s top flight.

Division two

Adelaide Uni and Unley Mercedes will be looking to bounce back from a tough division one season, both sides looking to development of their existing players in 2022.

New Jets coach – former Crows champion Scott Thompson – “keenly understands the development needs of the club’s structure this year,” according to president David Heaslip.

Other teams to look out for will be Sacred Heart OC and Broadview, who continue to recruit heavily.

Morphettville Park has taken promotion by the horns in the offseason, recruiting former North Adelaide key forward Alex Barns for 2022.

With Scotch OC and Seaton also moving entering division three, along with SMOSH West Lakes, the season is set to be one of the most competitive for some time.

Golden Grove will be one to watch after recruiting Lewis Johnston and Cam Shenton.

Pooraka looks set to experience success in division four after dominating in division five last season, ultimately defeating Kenilworth 124-59 in the grand final.

Plympton and Portland will also be eager to remain competitive and bounce back up to division three for 2023, but will face a big test in Pembroke OS, who made some significant signings in the preseason.

Division five

Clubs: Gepps Cross, Kilburn, Colonel Light Gardens, Eastern Park, Lockleys, Salisbury, Hectorville, Elizabeth, St Pauls OS, Blackfriars OS

Promoted: Elizabeth, St Pauls OS, Blackfriars OS

Two other clubs in Elizabeth and St Pauls OS will be joining Blackfriars OS in division five for this season, making for what should be a competitive year.

Both Eastern Park and Colonel Light Gardens look well-poised to go far again after just missing the grand final in 2021.

Division six

Clubs: Trinity OS, Para Hills, Marion, Rosewater, West Croydon, Fitzroy, Central United, Brahma Lodge

Promoted: Central United, Brahma Lodge

Brahma Lodge and Central United enter division six coming off a red-hot 2021 division seven season.

Brahma Lodge was dominant in its grand final win over Central United, and will be looking to further develop its side in a tougher competition.

New coach Dave Thompson takes the helm at West Croydon, the club hoping some changes will spark a reinvigorated side back to division five.

Division seven

Clubs: Greenacres, Adelaide Lutheran, Houghton Districts, Mitchell Park, Flinders University, Hackham, O’Sullivan Beach Lonsdale, Ingle Farm, Mawson Lakes, Smithfield

Smithfield returns to the Adelaide Footy League after sitting out of season 2021 due to a lack of players, staff and volunteers.

The club – one of the biggest Northern outfits – has been rebuilding its playing list ahead of this coming season and president Ryan Hocking said “the morale of the club is unbelievable compared to where it was.”

The club will go up against some competitive and hungry outfits, including Greenacres who painfully missed the grand final last season.
