SAAS Adelaide school cricket’s top players to watch this season
Adelaide’s school cricket season is here and we’ve picked the top players to watch during the T20 and one-day competitions. See who made the cut.

The 2022-23 SAAS division one season begins this weekend, with Adelaide’s top schools ready to do battle in T20 and one-day competition.
Countless talented young guns will take to the pitch as their schools vie for silverware.
From star state members to up and coming talents, we’ve got the players to watch this SAAS cricket season.
Here is our list in no particular order.
JACK MATCHETT
(Adelaide High)
Matchett features in the state underage pathway and has been an explosive left-handed batter.
He can also pitch in with the ball at any time during a game, bowling consistently quick delivery.
Was best on ground in the SAAS T20 final last year and should have another big season.
TEJAS GILL
(Adelaide High)
A left-handed top order batter who is now in his senior year after becoming Adelaide High’s youngest First XI debutant and captain, Gill is set for a successful season.
He has been a mainstay in the state underage squads and leads his side with his leadership and competitive spirit.
JACK THOMAS
(Immanuel)
Thomas, who plays for Glenelg in its B and C Grade sides, is still in year 11 and is beginning to make waves.
The SA U17 academy team player is a strong top order batter and can bowl consistent medium pace.
CALEB HILL
(Immanuel)
The year 10 student plays in Port Adelaide’s C Grade side and also made the SA U15 team last year.
He is a talented wicket keeper and opens as a left-handed batter.
HAMISH CASE
(Prince Alfred)
Case has played first grade cricket at Tea Tree Gully and is part of the U19 state squad, making him one of the most talented players in school cricket.
A versatile top order batter who can score in a multiple of ways, he will be one opposing bowlers need to quell the influence of early.
DECLAN IUSSA
(Sacred Heart)
A tall all rounder who has shown glimpses of what he can be in the preseason, Iussa could have a breakout year in 2022-23.
A left-hander who bats nicely through the order and can also bowl at a medium/quick pace.
JACK WILSON
(Sacred Heart)
Wilson is an up and coming fast bowler who has the potential to terrorise batters across the competition.
Is capable of a variation of deliveries from bowling swing, to bouncers, to yorkers.
SHANE RAPHAEL
(Sacred Heart)
Sacred Heart’s captain this season, Raphael’s ability to bat high in the order and also have an impact with the ball makes him one of the most exciting talents in school cricket.
The nephew of Australian cricketer Sam Raphael, Shane bowls impressive off breaks and bats consistently.
Has also played senior cricket at Sturt.
CHARLIE MORBEY
(Scotch)
A fast-developing all-rounder, Morbey will look to improve on a solid 2021-22 campaign this season.
The rising Scotch player can bowl consistently strong spells while also chipping in with the bat and has impressed coaches throughout the preseason.
TOBY BYWATER
(Scotch)
The leading run-scorer and champion player in the SAAS competition last season, the prospect of what Bywater could bring this year has Scotch cricket coaches excited.
Bywater will also take on the role of captain this season, putting his knowledge and leadership to the test.
JAMES HATTINGH
(St Peter’s)
The college’s captain this year, Hattingh was the leading run scorer for his side last season and should be able to produce at a similar level.
He is in year 11 this year and has recently been part of state trials.
Can also bowl right-arm leg spin.
NOAH LATTIMER
(St Peter’s)
Still in year 10, Lattimer’s potential is through the roof at St Peter’s.
A top order batter who makes a tonne of runs, the young gun recently represented SA in the National Indoor Cricket Championships and was selected in the U18 boys All-Star team.
Can bowl left arm medium pace.
