The South Australian Athletic League’s executive officer has resigned, claiming she was “ostracised” by the organisation.
Belinda Howden – who was with the SAAL since November 2020 – explained her decision in a letter addressed to the league on Wednesday.
“I have come to this decision due to receiving a substantially better career opportunity and the way I have been treated unprofessionally, with no support,” Ms Howden said.
“I have also been shown little to no respect in my role as executive officer of the SAAL.
“I am happy to return my computer and phone to the office once the league has forwarded all my entitlements.”
Ms Howden told The Advertiser she had been “cut off” by the organisation.
“They ostracised me. They never asked me or answered questions about possible decisions. They hid things from me. I never had access to financials, things like that,” she said.
“I’ve worked in sport before. I know how it works but I was just … excluded. If I had any disagreements with them I was cut off.”
League president Colin Rowston declined to comment.
Ms Howden amade clear her appreciation of the support she had received from the broader athletics community during her period with the league.
“I’ll always cherish all my achievements during my short time at the league,” she said.
“I’ve definitely had some highlights, like getting the history of the Bay Sheffield down at the Holdfast Bay Discovery Centre, acquiring new sponsorships, creating new carnivals for athletes.
“I have had a lot of good times at the league as well; it’s been a pleasure the support I have received from the coaches, athletes, clubs/squads, officials and sponsors.”
