ROSEWATER Football Club has been docked three premiership points after a player’s three-week striking suspension.

The Adelaide Footy League tribunal this week found Bulldogs player Derek Newchurch guilty of making “intentional”, “high” contact at “low” impact with a Fitzroy opponent in their division six clash on July 7.

Newchurch’s suspension broke an amended affiliation agreement Rosewater had with the league, which expelled the club from the competition in 2016 after a series of incidents and abuse directed at umpires.

Rosewater has been stripped of three points from its unbeaten A grade as well as its Bs and under-18s.

League chief executive John Kernahan said the latest incident was a reminder for the club of its obligations under the conditions.

“It is a minor blip on the radar – however, one the league had little choice but to impose, given the precedent set in other examples this year,” Kernahan said.

“The events of 2016 aside, Rosewater have been no better or worse than any club in our competition.”

Rosewater’s expulsion from the league in 2016 came when veteran Adam Rumbelow received a 20-year ban after he was found guilty of attacking an umpire.

It followed other incidents of verbal abuse towards umpires and violent behaviour, including a melee at an under-18s match.

Rosewater’s B grade has dropped from sixth to ninth on the ladder, while its under-18s remain on top of the table.

Club officials would not comment.

West Croydon, sitting second in division six with a 11-2 record, was also docked three premiership points earlier this season for a player suspension.
