A WILD brawl involving two warring families erupted alongside junior football games in the north-western suburbs yesterday, resulting in the arrest of four people.
Two of the people arrested were allegedly armed with knives.
Police rushed to the Rosewater Football Club in Canning St around 10.30am in response to reports of fighting at the oval.
Officers had to break up a crowd of about 25 people involved in the wild brawl and two of the arrested people were allegedly armed with knives.
Junior players involved in the game, along with their families and other spectators, sought refuge in the clubrooms during the brawl.
Two games between West Croydon and Rosewater — involving under-8s and under-10s players — were being played when the brawl erupted, according to Metro West Junior Football League spokesman Arnold Kretschmer.
He said the fighting was “totally non-football related’’.
“Two families who live on opposite sides of the football club unfortunately decided to take up their grievances during an under-8s and under-10s game,’’ he said.
Police said the “disturbance was not related to the Rosewater Football Club, players or officials, but related to an ongoing feud between families’’.
The arrests involved:
A 44-year-old man from Pennington charged with affray, carrying an offensive weapon and property damage.
A 31-year-old woman from Mansfield Park was charged with affray.
A 24-year-old man from Ingle Farm was charged with carrying an offensive weapon and disorderly behaviour.
A 15-year-old girl was charged with disorderly behaviour. She was bailed and is expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Youth Court on August 13.
The two men and the woman were bailed and are expected to appear at the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on September 2
Police said there were “no reported injuries’’.
