Division one flag hopeful Payneham Norwood Union has strengthened its back six in the run to finals with the signing of West Adelaide key defender Patrick Levicki.
The former Blood and Redleg was one of a string of late transfers at Adelaide Footy League clubs before the transfer window closed on Wednesday.
Levicki announced his retirement from SANFL football due to injuries last week and then joined the Falcons, who sit second in the top flight.
While there was no guarantee how many games PNU would get out of the 28-year-old, coach Jace Bode said he was a valuable addition to the club.
“Pat’s had some ongoing achilles issues which has obviously forced him into an early retirement at West,” Bode said.
“But we expect to see Pat for the back end of the season.
“We know that there’s a bit of an asterisk with his body but we’ve rolled the dice with Sam (Baulderstone) and Cal (Bartlett) previously, in terms of bringing quality players and people into the club.
“We’re hopeful we get some footy into him and he can play a big role for us moving into finals.
“Worst case if he doesn’t play this year, then we get an outstanding leader who is going to be able to help our key defenders and forwards as well.”
The 195cm defender made 53 league appearances for Norwood before switching to West ahead of the 2019 season and going on to play 30 games with the Bloods.
Levicki is not the only SANFL talent which could appear up in the Adelaide Footy League in coming weeks.
Division three club Gaza has gained the services of ex-Richmond player Ben Nason – dependent on his selection at Central District.
Nason, who played 23 AFL games for the Tigers, has not been selected in the Bulldogs’ league or reserves sides for this Saturday.
Gaza coach Matt Krieg said Nason was yet to make a decision about his future.
“At the moment we’ve just got a permit, so if he at some stage decides he won’t be playing out at Central then we would become his home club,” Krieg said.
Nason has made two league and nine reserves appearances for the Dogs this campaign.
Chris Hall, who departed the Eagles in April and then signed with the Adelaide’s SANFL side, has submitted a clearance to Henley.
However the premiership wingman has been named in the Crows side to take on Glenelg this weekend.
Elsewhere, emerging Brighton ruckman Tyrin Book has signed with Norwood and will likely be unavailable for the Bombers’ run to finals.
And North Adelaide premiership player Brock Castree, who returned to Prince Alfred Old Collegians in the off-season but has battled injury, has moved to division one rival Tea Tree Gully with the blessing of the Old Reds.
He will play for the sixth-placed Wolves in their crucial clash against seventh-ranked Port District this Saturday.
