Para Hills bowls West Torrens out for six runs in Adelaide Turf cricket

A division one Adelaide Turf cricket side pulled off a historic innings with the ball to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and keep its early season undefeated run intact.

An Adelaide Turf cricket club has recorded one of the best bowling innings in competition history to keep its undefeated streak alive to start the 2023-2024 season.

Para Hills’ A Grade women’s side made just 33 runs in its opening innings against West Torrens on Sunday but bounced back with the ball to remarkably bowl the Eagles out for just six runs in 6.3 overs.

Former SA Scorpions player Tamara Clapton was deadly with the ball, using her medium pace and regular change-ups to take six wickets for just three runs in 3.3 overs.

“It was a pretty strange feeling to be honest. We were all in shock,” Para Hills captain/coach Danielle Woods said.

“We were disappointed with our effort with the bat but our identity this season has been about backing our field and our bowling attack in, so we thought if they can do it to us, we can do it to them.

“We didn’t expect to do as well as we did with the ball but it has given us a lot of confidence moving forward.”

Coming off of a seventh place finish last season, Para Hills added Clapton and talented all-rounder Amanda Keynes for its 23-24 campaign.

Woods said the two additions had settled in quickly and were a big reason behind the club’s 5-0 start.

“Tamara is a very good player with a lot of experience who has played a lot of cricket, reads the play well and can change up her bowling if need be,” Woods said.

“Her and Amanda have gelled so well into our team and they’ve really provided a boost for everyone else.”

The side will play Sturt this Sunday in another test.

While Woods said her team needed to improve in some areas, she believed the side had what it took to go all the way this season.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence at the moment but we clearly need to improve our batting performance after the weekend,” she said.

“I absolutely think we’ve got what it takes – we’ve got a lot of experience and a lot of talent so we’re excited to continue our momentum.”
