A SANFLW coach has compared his side’s weekend match to English Premier League soccer battlers Burnley taking on oil-rich Manchester City.

NORWOOD 4.8 (32) GLENELG 3.3 (21)
Glenelg SANFLW coach Jason Fairall was proud of his side’s performance against undefeated Norwood despite an 11-point loss at Peter Motley Oval on Saturday.
The Tigers started well and took a five-point lead into half-time but failed to sustain it and a goalless third quarter led to a 4.8 (32) to 3.3 (21) loss.
It was a massive improvement from the week prior in which Fairall’s side only scored three points to eventually be defeated by Sturt.
“I don’t know if you follow the English Premier League but it felt like we were Burnley going up against Manchester City,” Fairall said.
“They’ve got all the big guns and the big recruits and we had a real backs-against-the-wall, underdogs mentality that we took into the game, particularly given the couple of weeks before.
“We went in with a plan and unfortunately it didn’t work for long enough but I was certainly very happy with our effort which had improved significantly.”
Tigers ruck Caitlin Gould was best-on-ground for her side with 15 disposals and 17 hit-outs, while Chelsea Packer (15 touches) was also solid.
Ellen Fauser – who returned to the side after being out last week with an injury – finished with 10 possessions and a goal and Fairall said her influence could not be underestimated.
“Caitlin Gould was probably the best ruck on the ground,” Fairall said.
“I thought she edged (Leah) Cutting which is amazing considering she played division three amateur league football last year and Cutting is one of the best rucks in the SANFLW.
“Fauser was pretty good up-forward she didn’t play last week so having her in made a massive difference to our forward line.
“There was just an overall improvement from a number of players which was really good.”
Glenelg plays South Adelaide at home this Saturday.
NORTH ADELAIDE 8.9 (57) EAGLES 1.2 (8)
North Adelaide forward Kelly Barltrop set a new SANFLW season goalkicking record and led the Roosters to a 49-point thumping of Woodville-West Torrens on Sunday.
Barltrop booted three goals in the 8.9 (57) to 1.2 (8) victory at Woodville Oval to take her tally to 16 for the campaign with four minor rounds to play.
It surpassed ex-Rooster Katelyn Rosenzwig’s high of 15 goals last season.
North kicked two behinds to begin the match before a pair of goals to Adrienne Davies late in the first term got it into gear.
Barltop and Emma Sampson (two goals) then took over as the Roosters were largely unchallenged to the final whistle.
Cassandra Glover kicked Woodville-West Torrens’ only goal. Jovanka Zecevic led the Eagles with 19 touches.
WEST 6.7 (43) STURT 5.1 (31)
West Adelaide came home strong to get over an accurate Sturt side in their SANFLW clash on Saturday at Unley Oval.
The Double Blues were clinical in front of the big sticks but lost 6.7 (43) 5.1 (31) to the Bloods, who moved up one spot to third on the ladder with the victory.
Chelsea Biddell starred for West Adelaide, kicking four goals and collecting 14 touches, while Madison Newman (20 disposals) and Abbie Ballard (18, six clearances) also impressed.
The hosts had all the play in the first quarter, booting four goals to the visitors’ one.
But the Double Blues were held to just one point in the second half, as the Bloods took control and claimed the eventual victory.
Sturt co-captain Caitlyn Swanson led from the front, finishing with a team-high 16 disposals and two goals, while Casey Fraser and Maya Rigter (15 possessions) were also strong.
Sophie Hoyle, Tess Maple and Hannah Prenzler were the Double Blues’ other goal kickers, all with singles.
SOUTH ADELAIDE 9.7 (61) CENTRAL DISTRICT 1.3 (9)
SOUTH Adelaide blew Central District away at Noarlunga Oval on Saturday with an eight-goal second half to keep hold of second spot on the ladder.
The Panthers trailed by two points at half-time but booted three goals after the break and five in the final term to record a dominant 9.7 (61) to 1.3 (9) win. They kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the second half.
It was South’s fourth win in succession, with its only loss coming against unbeaten ladder leaders Norwood in round two.
Chantel Reynolds kicked the sole goal for the visitors.
Central’s Danielle Stewart collected the most disposals on the ground, registering 23, while Gemma Doughty had an impressive 14 tackles.
Mykala Walker-Murphy did the bulk of the damage for the Panthers, kicking four goals.
Reynolds opened the game’s scoring with a behind two minutes in before South’s Danielle Golding kicked the first goal three minutes later.
Central responded when Reynolds slotted a goal at the 15-minute mark.
The second quarter was goalless but from there it was all the Panthers.
They kicked three majors during the third term and added five in a one-sided last quarter.
The result leaves Central sixth on the ladder with a 2-4 record.
It is one win behind fourth-ranked Glenelg.
