On the eve of round two of the Southern Football League, Covid-19 has forced a club to cancel its weekend’s matches.

The Noarlunga Football Club will only field an under-15s side on Saturday as its remaining sides, due to play Morphett Vale, fall victim to Covid infections and close contact restrictions.

In a statement to ‘The Mighty Shoes’ Facebook page on Friday night the club said it would always prioritise the health and wellbeing of its players, members and volunteers.

“It is with great sadness that due to the number of close contacts and some positive results to Covid-19, Noarlunga FC will only be able to field an U15s side this Saturday,” the statement read.

“This has not been an easy process and not something we have taken lightly in any aspect.

“Covid has wreaked havoc on so many Shoe families and we are thinking of all our players, coaches, volunteers and families who are currently ill or in isolation.”

Earlier the NFC executives asked anyone at the club on the evening of Saturday, April 2 to get tested for Covid-19.

“Due to a number of cases within the club if you were at the club Saturday night we are requesting you please take a Rapid Antigen Test or get a PCR test and let us know if you return a positive result,” the post said.

“Our Shoeys family's health is of utmost importance to us so, we appreciate your cooperation.”

The Messenger contacted the Noarlunga Football Club, who refused to comment.
