Grand finalists South Adelaide dominate SANFLW Team of the Year with five players included

Grand finalists South Adelaide has dominated the SANFLW Team of the Year with five players selected. Minor premier Norwood and fellow grand finalists North Adelaide have four players each who earned selection.

The 2019 Advertiser SANFLW Team of the Year was announced Tuesday night and grand finalist South Adelaide dominated the selection honours with five players included for a second year in row.

Panthers defender Cheyenne Hammond, midfielders Czenya Cavouras and Hannah Munyard, as well as forwards Hannah Munyard and Nicole Campbell were announced as part of the team during an awards night at Adelaide Oval.

Rick Watts was named coach after leading South to an 8-2 record and a second consecutive grand final berth.

Minor premier Norwood and grand finalist North Adelaide had four players included in the team of 22.

Best and fairest winner Najwa Allen was named as one of the ruck rovers along with Redlegs teammates Hannah Dunn and Leah Cutting.

The competition’s leading goal kicker and Roosters full-forward Kelly Barltrop also received a guernsey, alongside North co-captain Nadia von Bertouch and teammates Amber Ward and Lauren Daniel.

Three Glenelg players earned a berth in the Team of the Year, while there were two inclusions from West Adelaide as well as one from Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens.

Von Bertouch, who was named at half-forward, was awarded the captaincy, while Allen claimed the vice skipper duties.

The SANFL’S Adam Kelly, Tom Hurley, Robbie Neill, Zac Milbank and Messenger sports reporter Daniela Abbracciavento selected the team.
