Former Adelaide Crows AFLW assistant coach Mark Moody will take the reins of West Adelaide’s SANFLW team next season.
Moody, who was an assistant at the Crows from 2016 to 2018, was named as the Bloods’ new mentor last week.
The 56-year-old takes over from Shane Moon, who led West to a fifth-place finish with a 6-4 record this past season.
Moody, who is currently coaching Adelaide Footy League Women’s division one powerhouse Adelaide University, is proud to be given an opportunity to mentor a state league side.
He said he would bring plenty of experience after being involved with the Crows during 2017 when they claimed the inaugural AFLW flag.
“I feel very honoured and very happy,” says Moody, who works for shipbuilding company ASC.
“After finishing with the Crows, it (senior coaching) is something I have pursued and now it’s come to fruition it’s good.
“It (2017 AFLW premiership) was one of the highlights of my coaching career and it was great to be involved at that level.
“There’s lots of things from working with the Crows I can take to West but the most important one is the professionalism.”
Moody, who was interim coach of WAFL side Peel Thunder in 2012, believed he could take West Adelaide to a finals series next season.
The Bloods finished with the same win/loss record as Glenelg this year but had missed out on finals because they had a lower percentage.
“I’m currently working through the review the club has done,” Moody, of Semaphore, said.
“We are working through where we think there are deficiencies in regards to players and work on that.
“We will work through a new structure, we’ll work through a new game plan but at the end of the day we need to ensure we’ve got buy-in and we’ve got two-way communication.”
Moody, meanwhile, is preparing to lead Adelaide University into a preliminary final against Salisbury at home this Sunday.
The winner will take on SMOSH West Lakes in the grand final at Thebarton Oval on Sunday, September 8.
