Christies Beach is still unbeaten after six rounds following a big win against Happy Valley, Noarlunga boosts its percentage with a 208-point triumph over the struggling Sharks, while Port Noarlunga steals a victory off Morphett Vale.

Here is Messenger Community News’ wrap of the Southern Football League’s round six.

CHRISTIES BEACH 19.14 (128) HAPPY VALLEY 3.6 (24)

Christies Beach continued on its winning way to prove too strong for Happy Valley at Bice Oval.

Led by Aidan Coakley, the Saints cruised home 19.14 (128) to 3.6 (24) after holding a healthy 9.4 to 2.0 advantage at half-time.

Ben Powell and Nathan Stock (three goals) enjoyed top games for the Saints, while Blake Carter (five goals) and captain/coach Jacob Crate (three goals) were solid in attack.

Jarryd Sutton, Caleb Dearman and Caleb Dolman were among the best for the Vikings.

Christies Beach is undefeated after six matches and is second on the ladder, heading into the bye this weekend.

The Saints will then take on reigning premier Flagstaff Hill away on Saturday, June 1.

ALDINGA 3.1 (19) NOARLUNGA 34.23 (227)

Top versus bottom was not going to be the recipe for a tight contest and that proved the case as the high-flying Noarlunga crushed Aldinga at Aldinga.

With dominant players everywhere, the Shoes chalked up plenty of percentage to account for the Sharks, 34.23 (227) to 3.1 (19) after leading 17.12 to 3.0 at half-time.

Tom Mott (two goals), Terry Milera (four goals) and Nathan Schulz led a long list of stars for Noarlunga.

In attack Nick Mott kicked seven goals while Reece Martell and Victor Robertson booted five each.

PORT NOARLUNGA 9.11 (65) MORPHETT VALE 6.8 (44)

Port Noarlunga’s steady hand and depth rose to the top in its victory against Morphett Vale at home last Saturday, but not before a titanic battle.

The Cockledivers stood tall to take the match 9.11 (65) to 6.8 (44) after the Emus looked a chance to cause a boilover when they led 3.1 to 0.2 at quarter time, 3.4 to 2.5 at the main break and 6.7 to 4.7 at the last change.

With 10 minutes to play, Morphett Vale was still in front but Port dominated play late to grab the vital points.

Best for the Cockledivers included Daniel Trevena, Aaron Peterson and Jake Veide.

Emus coach Braden Bayly said his side gave it everything before running out of steam.

“I knew it was going to be tough to hang on but the players really put in,’’ Bayly said.

“It is rewarding to see us get so close. The endeavour has been very good and I have been overwhelmed by the support around the club.

“We just need a few extra talls to help out. I think we are slowly getting there.’’

Daniel Earl led from the front for the Emus, while Braydan Hartwig and Julian Mardigan also had top games.

COVE 7.14 (56) FLAGSTAFF HILL 25.14 (164)

Flagstaff Hill again showed its scoring power when it handed out a lesson to Cove contest at Cove last Saturday.

Bombarding the goal with 9.3 to 2.4 in the first term, the Falcons kept the pressure up to eventually salute 25.26 (176) to 7.4 (46).

Sam Tharaldsen continued his solid form to be best, while Daniel Webb (seven goals) and Rhys Bache were key contributors.

Sam Smith and Daniel Butcher rounded out the attack with four goals each. Scott Grieve, Shannon Houweling and Lincoln Holder battled the odds for the Cobras.

GORDO’S GRILL

■ It’s great to see a couple of club stalwarts doing well for their clubs.

Happy Valley leader Justin Schurgott recently chalked up his 150th senior game with the Vikings, while Morphett Vale’s Daniel Earl, one of five players to have featured in the five Emu premiership sides between 2004-09, was best for the red and blacks last Saturday.

With big player losses at both Happy Valley and Morphett Vale, it is terrific to see Schurgs and Early still running around with their clubs.

■ Here’s a little stat for the keen followers of the SFL.

Christies Beach and Noarlunga are unbeaten after six rounds in both A and B grade.

The clubs don’t meet until June 15 but there should be a couple of top matches coming, especially if both keep their unblemished records until then.

■ Aldinga and Morphett Vale may be struggling in the men’s A-grade comp but the Sharks and Emus’ women’s senior teams are doing very nicely at the early stage of their seasons.

Both teams went into last Sunday’s round-four clash at Aldinga unbeaten – although the Sharks further stamped their authority by prevailing 7.8 (50) to 0.2 (2).
