Blackwood playing coach Ryan Anderson is backing his side to make an impact when it counts this season after tearing apart Hills Football League finals hopeful Uraidla Districts on Saturday.

It was a show of strength from the Woods as they registered 26 more scoring shots than the Demons in the 15.22 (112) to 7.4 (46) round five belting at Uraidla Oval.

Anderson said the performance was the perfect response from his side, which now has a 2-2 win-loss record, following back-to-back losses against top sides Hahndorf and Lobethal.

And the former West Adelaide midfielder believed the round four bye came at a good time.

“We obviously had a pretty good start against Mount Lofty but then had a couple of set backs against Hahndorf and Lobethal,” Anderson said.

“They’re obviously two quality sides but we were still disappointed the way which we went about some areas and we spoke about during the break.

“We made a few changes and the boys worked extremely hard over that bye week, set themselves some goals and targets to achieve over the next four or five weeks.

“They want to not only make the finals but look to have an impact.”

Poor kicking did not halt the Woods’ momentum on Saturday as they hammered Uraidla with repeat forward 50 entries.

Blackwood, which has upped its scoring this season by more than three goals per game on average, were particularly impressive in a 6.5 to 1.3 third quarter.

Veteran Scott Bricknell led the way for the Woods against Uraidla and Ben Macreadie was at his best, while ruckman Sam Zevenboom impressed in his A-grade debut.

Joel Aish booted four goals, while James Catford, Evan Johnson, Ryan Dijksman and Jak Baldissera all snagged a pair.

Harry Allen and Matthew Slade battled hard for Uraidla.

With matches against Nairne Bremer, Onkaparinga Valley, Echunga and Mount Barker to finish the season, Anderson was aware the Woods had little room for error.

“2-2 isn’t too bad and we’ve played some quality opposition in that time, but the reality is it’s such a short and different season you can’t dwell on anything,” he said.

“You can’t afford to slip up or take a game lightly because it could even come down to percentage.

“It’s pretty close between us, Mount Barker, Onkas and Uraidla at the moment.”

In other results, second-placed Lobethal bounced back from last week’s hefty defeat to Hahndorf by beating Mount Barker 12.9 (81) to 6.8 (44) at home.

James Elliott, player/coach Matt Fuller and big man Jack Osborn (three goals) led the way for the Tigers as they kicked eight goals to the Roos’ three in the second half to run away with victory.

Darcy Hourigan booted a season high seven goals for Nairne Bremer but the improving Rams were still no match for Onkaparinga Valley in a 35-point defeat.

Star Dogs Tim Webber and John Greenslade while Joe Beilby and Tom Mayo both kicked three majors.

Winless Echunga’s struggles continued when it fell to Mount Lofty by 46 points at home.
