11TH-HOUR LATE CHANGE
A late SANFL call-up has spoiled St Peter’s Old Collegians’ plans to unveil ex-AFL recruit Daniel Jackson in its biggest rivalry match of the season.
The former Richmond midfielder – who played 156 games for the Tigers across 11 campaigns – was a late off-season signing for the minor premiers.
Jackson was named to play for SPOC in its clash with old enemy Prince Alfred Old Collegians on Saturday.
But, come 11am that morning, the 34-year-old received a late call-up to Adelaide’s reserves.
Jackson joined the Crows last year as leadership development manager and game day runner, but has since pulled the boots back on in the SANFL after the club’s midfield was hit by injuries.
SPOC coach Geoff Riddle accepted the late change was part of the deal with players who are also on SANFL lists.
Although he certainly could have used Jackson’s experience as his side went down to the Old Reds by 49 points.
“It was very last minute but that’s what you get,” Riddle said.
“A couple of our guys know some guys at the Crows who told them Dan was keen to play somewhere.
“That’s the plan, when he’s not playing for the Crows he wants to play at St Peter’s.
“Off-field he’s helping us with mentoring and developing some of our younger guys, which will be really beneficial.”
Jackson was the Crows equal-leading possession winner with 21 touches in their loss to the Eagles on Saturday.
SPOC will be hopeful it can regain some key players as it hosts reigning premiers Goodwood in round three.

10 OF THE BEST
Regular readers of the One-Percenters column will be aware of the exploits of Alex Forster in division four.
But the Pembroke Old Scholars spearhead may have a rival when it comes to the title of the fourth tier’s top goal kicker.
While Forster starred with a bag of 10 in the Kings’ big win over Woodville South on Saturday, over at Blair Athol Reserve Walkerville’s Adam Proud also slotted 10 in an impressive performance against Kilburn.
Forster still leads the way with 19 majors to Proud’s 13 after two rounds but the Cats forward has form.
Proud only played three A grade games in 2020, including the winning grand final, however in 2019 he bagged 65 goals for Walkerville.
With Cats and high-flying Kings both expected to be contenders this season we could be in for a nice battle between the two full-forwards as well.
What’s more, Walkerville and Pembroke face each other this weekend.
ANZAC DAY ACTION
There will be no top flight games played on Anzac Day this season – all five matches remain Saturday fixtures – but you can still get your Adelaide Footy League fix this Sunday.
In division five, Colonel Light Gardens will host Kenilworth in a triple-header at Mortlock Park with an Anzac ceremony to take place before the A grade clash.
Mofflin Reserve will also be the setting for a match on Sunday when Mitchell Park travel to face an in-form Central United.
The Bulldogs will wear specially designed Anzac guernseys for the occasion, which will be auctioned off later that evening with all proceeds donated to Legacy.
