Adelaide Footy League Round 1 marks of the week

Round two of the Adelaide Footy League season is over, with thrilling contests played out across the competition.

Here are The Messenger’s reports from every division:

DIVISION ONE

Prince Alfred Old Collegians coach Craig Pitt said a tight win against Old Ignatians was exactly what his team needed to bounce back after last week’s loss to PNU.

The Old Reds went back and forth with Iggies all day until the third quarter, breaking away to a one-goal lead and maintaining the advantage through the fourth to grab an important victory – 9.13 (67) to 8.8 (56).

“Any win at the start of the season is pretty important but you can see how tight the competition is this year so when you play in tight games the more you win the better it is for you,” Pitt said.

“We have a fair few areas we’d like to improve in but it was just a really tough contest and we’re glad we’re happy to get the monkey off the back.”

Old Ignatians brought high intensity throughout the matchup, Kristian Roocke dominating for the visitors.

Jack Trengove, Chris Curran and Will Dallwood all produced sturdy displays for Princes however, leading the hosts to an important win.

“It’s good to see multiple guys stepping up for us, and kids like Oscar Clark and Josh Garrels really stood up for us and got a lot of the ball, which is positive because we’ll need the youth to produce throughout the year,” Pitt said.

“They (Old Ignatians) definitely brought the pressure and intensity around the ball but I felt like we managed to control the game for the most part, so hopefully we can fix some things, build and keep winning.”

The thrillers didn’t end there in division one, St Peter’s OC coming back from three kicks down in the final term to oust hosts Glenunga – 11.7 (73) to 11.12 (78).

The Rams were in control for most of the game but Saints managed to bounce back from an ugly incident which saw Glenunga’s Nick Wundke red carded, to win – Jake Sutcliffe slotting one home from 50 to win it in the final minute.
