Round three of the Adelaide Footy League has been played out over Anzac Day long weekend, with tough battles contested throughout the competition.

Here are The Messenger’s reports from every division:

DIVISION ONE

Old Ignatians used a seven goal to one third term to storm past Goodwood Saints and achieve the first division one win in its history.

The club had produced two solid displays against Tea Tree Gully and Prince Alfred Old Collegians since winning promotion to the division, but without a win.

Coach Damian Boots was pleased to see his side get some reward for effort on the weekend.

“It was a terrific day for the club – our first home game in division one – and to come away with a win against a strong team was great reward for sticking with the plan,” Boots said.

“It was fantastic to make a bit of history.”

Goodwood had the ascendancy on the scoreboard in the first half, leading by 12 points at the main break.

It didn’t take long for Iggies to hit their straps in the third though, and a seven-goal term – including four from Brad Jones – helped them to a 13.9 (87) to 9.9 (63) win.

“I thought our first half contest work and structures were there and felt if we could continue that work rate and get a couple in a row we could run away with it, and that’s what happened,” Boots said.

“It was a real arm wrestle and a pretty fast and brutal game at times so I’m happy with how our guys stuck with it and got the result.”

Next to Brad Jones, captain Will Abbott was dominant through the middle, while Hugh Ferrari produced a strong shift and kicked two goals.

Boots was pleased to see an even contribution across the board.

“Will Abbott was great, it was the best game so far from him this year and I thought Brayden De Prinse dominated the ruck for us, but we had strong contributions from every player which is what I’m most pleased by,” he said.

“That’s been a trend so far this year so we’re looking for it to continue.”

Glenunga also recorded its first division one win of the season, with a 6.9 (45) to 15.14 (104) win away from home.

The Rams pulled away in the third term, booting six goals to two behinds, and never looked back.

Michael McMahon was a standout for his team with four majors in a dominant display.
