The Hills Football League’s Country Division is full of talented local footballers, so we’ve ranked the top 30 players of 2025. See who made the cut.

The Hills Football League’s Country Division has gone from strength to strength in recent years and boasts top SA country footy talent.

With the second half of the season underway, we’ve ranked the top 30 players in the division for 2025.

Here is our list from no. 30 to 1.

30. RILEY O’SHEA

(Torrens Valley)

An emerging young star for Torrens Valley.

Teenage gun O’Shea provides great versatility around the ground and is a consistent distributor.

Has seven best player nods in eight games.

29. ROBERT YOUNG

(Birdwood)

A former gun with Torrens Valley, Young has been a star with the Roosters this year.

Provides great security on and behind the ball and always does the dirty work for his side.

Six best player nods in seven games.

28. KYLE EMERY

(Macclesfield)

Emery has been one of his side’s most important players so far this year.

A versatile asset who does damage around the ground and can also hit the scoreboard.

Has 11 goals and four best player nods in eight games.

27. BILLY TROTT

(Meadows)

Trott has emerged as one of Meadows’ most consistent players in recent years.

A reliable player in possession who cuts opposition up with his disposal.

Four best player nods in eight games.

26. TONY GIBSON

(Macclesfield)

Joining from Encounter Bay this year, Gibson has provided a boost for his new side.

Wins plenty of the footy in the contest and is one of his side’s best decision makers.

Four best player nods in four games.

25. RYAN PARRY

(Macclesfield)

Joining from Aldinga this year, Parry has been big for the Blood and Tars.

One of the best runners in the competition who always remains calm and composed under pressure.

Has three best player nods in four games.

24. CODY GRIFFITHS

(Kersbrook)

The former Goolwa/Pt Elliot player has been a star for Kersbrook since joining the club at the start of the 2023 season.

A young and mobile ruckman who impacts the game through his tapwork or with his ability to take big grabs and set up teammates with efficient disposal.

Has two best player performances in eight games.

23. BENJAMIN BIAGI

(Gumeracha)

Biagi has developed into a reliable option for the Magpies since arriving from Tanunda.

Biagi is a clean user of the ball who is adept at gathering in the contest and hitting teammates.

Six goals and four best player nods in eight games.

22. JORDAN SADLER

Sadler has solidified himself as a mainstay through the midfield or behind the ball for the Roosters.

A tall player who can take big grabs and uses the ball efficiently, Sadler has four best player nods in his seven games so far this season.

Has four best player mentions in seven games.

21. MAX BUCKLEY

(Meadows)

A gun midfielder and halfback for Meadows, Buckley has been a key contributor in 2025 so far.

The club leader provides strong run and carry for the Bulldogs and is a great user of the footy, hitting teammates with pinpoint accuracy.

Has 15 goals and four best player nods in eight games.

20. DYLAN BURGE

(Kersbrook)

A reliable player for Kersbrook, Burge is in the midst of one of his best seasons in the HFL’s Country Division.

Versatile around the ground with the ability to win the footy in the contest and find teammates quickly under pressure, Burge can damage sides in a number of ways.

Has three best player performances and three goals in seven games.

19. TYLER SEARL

(Echunga)

One of the top goalkickers in the competition.

Searl has been an integral part of Echunga’s makeup this season with his ability to take strong marks and finish efficiently.

Has 28 goals in eight games.

18. ANDY VINES

(Kersbrook)

A returning premiership player for Kersbrook, Vines has been dominant this year.

Supremely skilled onballer who distributes well and consistently hits the scoreboard.

Three best player nods and 12 goals in eight games.

17. DANIEL TREPKA

(Gumeracha)

A versatile player who can do damage on or behind the ball, Trepka has emerged as one of Gumeracha’s best this season.

Attacks the contest courageously and wins plenty of hard balls for the Magpies while also disposing around the ground efficiently and damaging sides with his run and carry.

Five best player nods in eight games.

16. MATT GARDNER

(Kersbrook)

Champion Kersbrook captain Gardner has remained dominant while he leads a younger Brookers side this year.

A strong and dominant player in the air who boasts elite hand and foot skills.

Has five best player mentions and three goals in eight games.

15. JARRED JONES

Star captain of the Roosters, Jones has been a standout in the competition yet again this season.

A hard-nosed player who loves doing the dirty work for his side and racking up important possessions through his toughness and high work rate.

Has three best player nods and five goals in four games.

14. JAKE TOBIN

(Gumeracha)

Joining the Magpies from Barossa District, Tobin has been one of the major positives for the Magpies.

A strong and composed player on the ball who does significant damage with his pressure and disposal.

Has seven best player nods in eight games.

13. LIAM PLACE

(Echunga)

Echunga captain Liam Place has been a standout yet again this season.

A versatile and courageous player who wins plenty of the contested footy and carves up opposition with his disposal.

Has six goals and five best player appearances in six games.

12. MATT BORG

(Gumeracha)

A star for Gumeracha who joined from Pooraka for this season.

Borg is a tough player up front and in the contest who has clean skills and finishes well.

Has 17 goals and three best player nods in seven games.

11. TYLER VIRGO

(Kangarilla)

A gun onballer who returned to the Kangas after time with Nangwarry in the South East, Virgo has starred for his side this season.

Is a tireless player who accumulates plenty of the footy in the contest or on the outside and can also boot goals when needed.

Has 10 goals and seven best player mentions in eight games.

10. ISAAC LALLARD

(Macclesfield)

Macclesfield’s hot start to the season has been largely due to the dominance of Lallard each week.

Lallard remains one of Macclesfield’s most integral players and has been among the Blood and Tars’ best in six of the eight games he has played in 2025.

Attacks the contest and uses the ball well.

9. LUKE SMART

A tireless worker through the middle for Meadows, Smart has tallied over 100 games for the Bulldogs and has performed in nearly every one.

With a high footy IQ, a strong frame and consistent skills, Smart is one of the best on-ballers in the competition and should have a major impact in finals.

Has six best player mentions and four goals in eight games.

8. JOEL HARVEY-FRIEL

(Kangarilla)

One of the major standouts of the competition in recent years, Harvey-Friel has been at his best for Kangarilla in 2025.

A versatile player who can play on the ball and also do damage up front, the former Henley gun gives the Kangas a number of options, wins plenty of contested footy and always makes the right decision with ball in hand.

Has five best player nods and 11 goals in seven games.

7. NICK MITZITHRAS

(Macclesfield)

An emerging star for the Blood and Tars, Mitzithras has been a consistent standout in the HFL this season.

Covers ground as well as anyone in the competition, racks up possessions and always makes reliable decisions.

Has four best player nods and 11 goals in eight games.

6. JACK PARKER

(Gumeracha)

Stepping up after the departure of the Hanna brothers, Parker has been among Gumeracha’s best each week so far.

The Magpies captain finds plenty of the footy around the ground, is strong overhead and always distributes well.

Seven best player mentions in eight games.

5. TYLER WESTLEY

(Kersbrook)

An athletic player who does damage through the middle and in the forwardline, Westley has produced a top level of footy this year.

The Kersbrook gun damages sides with his marking prowess, goalkicking and impressive disposal.

Has 20 majors and six best player nods in eight games.

4. HARLEY MONTGOMERY

Former RMFL star Harley Montgomery has been a major standout for Echunga this season.

A versatile and highly skilled player who wins important possessions for his side, distributes well and can also have a major impact up front.

Has 21 goals and three best player nods in seven games.

3. BLAKE CARTER

(Macclesfield)

A star forward for Macclesfield this season, Carter has led the competition in goals so far.

An athletic and skilled player who leads well, takes strong marks, boots majors from anywhere and sets up his teammates.

Has 44 goals in eight games including a huge 16 against Torrens Valley in round four.

2. KYE DEAN

(Kangarilla)

Joining Kangarilla from Colonel Light Gardens, Dean has been dominant for his new side.

The reigning AdFL division five medallist is a ball magnet who wins plenty of his own footy, deals to teammates efficiently and can also hit the scoreboard.

Five best player nods and 15 goals in eight games.

1. BRETT TURNER

Former Glenelg and Crows SANFL gun Brett Turner has continued his dominance for Echunga since joining ahead of the 2024 season.

A powerhouse through the middle who wins plenty of his own footy, lays big tackles and distributes as well as anyone in the competition.

Has four best player nods in six games.
