Adelaide Footy League division six and seven’s top 40 players of 2023 ranked

Divisions six and seven of the Adelaide Footy League are packed with budding local talent so we’ve drawn from the two competitions to rank the top 40 players of 2023. See who made the cut.

Divisions six and seven of the Adelaide Footy League have improved each season and boast a number of star names in 2023.

Based on this season’s form and with the help of league insiders, we’ve ranked the combined top 40 players from each division in 2023.

Players with less than eight appearances were ruled ineligible.

Here is our list from 40 to 1.

40. BEN LENNON

(St Paul’s OS)

Significantly improving his output in 2023, Lennon has been a star forward for St Paul’s OS yet again.

A big and imposing player up front, Lennon takes a number of impressive marks each week and finishes well in front of the big sticks.

Has 43 goals and five best player nods in 14 games.

39. TREVOR RIGNEY

One of local SA footy’s most iconic players, Rigney remains a star veteran at OSB Lonsdale.

A high-flying forward who takes multiple spectacular grabs a season and can boot goals from anywhere, Rigney is still the best to watch for his side.

Has 46 goals and three best player performances in 14 games.

38. MARK GARNER

(Central United)

A gun midfielder for Central United, Garner has been one of his side’s best.

Runs hard all day for the Bulldogs and provides well for forwards or backs with pinpoint disposal.

Has nine best player nods and five goals in 13 games.

37. BROCK HONSON

(Rosewater)

Starring up front for Rosewater this season, Honson has produced a consistent year in 2023.

A strong target who moves well across the forwardline and can either set up his teammates or slot home multiple goals a week.

Has 34 goals and seven best player mentions in 14 games.

36. BAILEY STANBOROUGH

(Marion)

A consistent contributor in the contest and across the forwardline.

Stanborough is a strong and skilled player who specialises with distribution in close and can also create or hit the scoreboard up front.

Has 15 goals and seven best player nods in 14 games.

35. RICKY SMITH

(Greenacres)

A reliable player in the contest and behind the ball for the Dragons.

Smith boasts brilliant aerial ability, often flying to take big grabs or compete in the air for Greenacres, and is a great distributor around the ground.

Has six best player nods and a goal in 11 games.

34. TRENT HARRISON

(Houghton Districts)

Composed on the footy with a damaging boot, Harrison has been important for Houghton Districts this season.

Covers ground well and is composed under pressure, finding teammates with ease.

Has seven best player mentions in 12 games.

33. SEB FAIRLIE

(Marion)

One of Marion’s best during their division six-topping season.

Tough around the contest and reliable on the ball, Fairlie is a star ruck who finds teammates with consistent tap-work and is great distributor.

Seven best player nods and three goals in 15 games.

32. RILEY HENRIKS

(St Paul’s OS)

While 2023 has been a challenge for St Paul’s OS, Henriks has been a major positive for the club.

A star midfielder who is clean off of the deck, Henriks often gets up the ground to hit the scoreboard and create for others.

Has 20 goals and nine best player nods in 16 games.

31. KOSTANDINOS GEORGIADIS

(Greenacres)

A star player for Greenacres this season.

Georgiadis is a hard-running midfielder who can find teammates as well as anyone under duress and also hit the scoreboard.

Has 13 goals and nine best player nods in 14 games.

30. JASON HAY

(Para Hills)

One of his club’s most improved players, Hay has been a standout for the Bulldogs in 2023 after a quiet 2022.

A tough competitor on the ball who lays multiple tackles a game and can also move up the ground to impact the scoreboard.

Has 13 goals and seven best player nods in 16 games.

29. JAKE MARTIN

(Houghton Districts)

The former Tea Tree Gully player has been at his best for Houghton Districts up front this season.

A strong target with a safe pair of hands who can slot goals from anywhere, Martin is also adept at finding teammates inside the 50 or up the ground.

Has 40 majors and six best player nods in 16 games.

28. MASON PITT

(Ingle Farm)

A rising young star for Ingle Farm, Pitt has been one of the standouts for the Bulldogs in 2023.

The 20-year-old provides damaging run and carry and is an excellent user of the footy who can take high flying grabs and find teammates up the ground with precision.

Has eight best player nods and three goals in 16 games.

27. KARIM HRYNKIW

(Para Hills)

One of Para Hills’ many signings in the pre-season, Hrynkiw has had a major impact for his new side since arriving from Brahma Lodge.

A reliable player across the back who also has the ability to impact the contest, Hrynkiw is an accurate kick and finds teammates with ease.

Has five best player nods in 13 games.

26. STEVEN OSBORNE

(Salisbury)

A quality mid who uses the ball well and remains composed under pressure.

Osborne has been a key part of Salisbury’s turnaround this season, battling hard in the contest and creating for teammates with ball in hand.

Has five best player nods and three goals in 12 games.

25. DYLAN DARLEY

(Fitzroy)

After a rocky start to the season, Darley has emerged as one of Fitzroy’s most consistent players.

Boasts the ability to play both in the contest or behind the ball, competing hard in the air and at ground level to win the footy and release teammates.

Has seven best player appearances and a goal in 12 games.

24. ALEX LILLECRAPP

(Adelaide Lutheran)

A rising young star for Adelaide Lutheran, Lillecrapp’s ability on the ball has seen him emerge as one of his club’s best in division six.

Also making an appearance for the Glenelg U18s this season, Lillecrapp is an excellent runner who finds plenty of the ball in space and damages with his distribution.

Has six goals and eight best player nods in 15 games.

23. JACKSON THOMPSON

(Salisbury)

The former star leader with Brahma Lodge has made a splash since joining Salisbury.

Thompson’s ability to have an impact in the contest, whether he’s winning important possessions or finding forwards ahead of the play, makes him a consistently dangerous player for the Magpies.

Has seven best player performances and seven goals in 15 games.

22. JACK DELCHAU

(Ingle Farm)

One of Ingle Farm’s best performers this year, Delchau has been a big reason behind his club’s 15-1 season so far.

A tireless midfielder who applies relentless tackle pressure to cause turnovers and uses the ball as well as anyone in division seven.

Has eight best player mentions and 11 goals in 16 games.

21. JERICHO JOHN

(Adelaide Lutheran)

John has only played eight games so far this season but has been a star for Adelaide Lutheran.

Returning to the club after time with Karoonda in the Mallee FL, John has been a versatile and effective player for his side, either dominating up front as a strong target or providing security behind the footy.

Has 28 goals and three best player nods in eight games.

20. JOSH MANN

(Salisbury)

Salisbury’s top forward this season, Mann has been as effective as ever for the Magpies.

An athletic player who is hard to stop one-on-one and boasts a reliable set-shot for goal.

Has 52 majors and four best player nods in 16 games.

19. MATT GIBSON

(Greenacres)

A superstar forward who hit the 100-mark during division seven finals last season, Gibson has been important for Greenacres again.

Fast off of the mark and clean off of the deck, Gibson is a skilled forward who knows his way around goal and has the ability to finish on either side.

Has 52 goals and four best player performances in 16 games.

18. ZAC ANGEL

(Marion)

One of the Rams’ most consistent players in season 2023, Angel remains important to his side’s success.

Dominant on the ball, Angel can win his own footy and find space seamlessly to set-up teammates with accurate disposal.

Has eight best player nods and four goals in 16 games and has been among Marion’s best seven times in his last eight appearances.

17. JOSH ADEY

(Greenacres)

After helping the Dragons to an undefeated division seven season in 2022, Adey has remained one of his club’s best in 2023.

One of the best runners in the competition, Adey covers ground well and consistently wins the ball to release his team into space.

Can also boot goals up front, kicking 20 majors to go along with 10 best player appearances in 15 games.

16. JOSH ROSENTHAL

(Fitzroy)

One of the standout forwards in division six, Rosenthal has been a consistent target up front for the Lions.

The former Port District big man boasts excellent hand and foot skills and can take towering grabs to set himself or his team up the ground.

Has 46 goals and eight best player nods through 16 games.

15. ADAM BEAUMONT

(Marion)

Beaumont has been an exceptional player for Marion up front and through the middle this season.

The former Brighton Bombers player is a hard runner who disposes of the ball accurately under pressure by hand or foot and can also finish with composure in front of goal.

Has 20 majors and seven best player nods in 15 games.

14. DANIEL TANCZOS

(Ingle Farm)

Composed on the ball for the Bulldogs with a damaging boot, Tanczos has played a significant role in the division seven side’s dominance this season.

Tanczos wins plenty of the footy in the contest and can cut up any opposition with his distribution.

Has nine best player nods and four goals in his 16 games so far.

13. PATRICK HURE

(Rosewater)

A consistent star for Rosewater this season, Hure has impressed as a dominant backman again in 2023.

Club best and fairest last season, Hure’s ability to cut-off attacks in the air and provide strong run and carry and efficient disposal down the flanks makes him one of division six’s best players.

Has 11 best player mentions and four goals in 15 games.

12. BRADEN HART

(Para Hills)

Joining Para Hills from Broadview in the pre-season, Hart has been one of his new club’s best players in division seven.

A tireless player through the middle who can also slot in up front and create for others or hit the scoreboard, Hart is an efficient user of the footy.

Has 10 goals and six best player nods in 16 games.

11. BEN RUSSELL

(Central United)

Central United’s top performer in season 2023, Russell has been a standout on the ball.

Russell runs all day to provide an option for his forwards and midfielders and has no issue doing the dirty work in the contest to win the ball and dispose to teammates accurately.

Has 12 best player nods and eight goals in 16 games.

10. BRODIE MCHUGH

(Marion)

Arriving from Border Downs Tintinara last year and also appearing for Lockleys in division four this season, McHugh has been a standout for Marion.

A brilliant user of the ball through the contest, McHugh always makes the right decisions under duress and delivers with efficiency.

Has six best player nods and four goals in nine games.

9. MITCH SLATER

(Salisbury)

Salisbury’s top performer so far this season, Slater has been huge for the Magpies.

A weapon up front, Slater’s ability to hit the contest hard and take strong marks up front while also have an impact as a tough player through the middle makes him one of the best players in div six.

Has seven best player nods and 31 goals in 16 games.

8. BRANDON RIGNEY

Arriving at Ingle Farm from Ardrossan in the Yorke Peninsula FL with brother Terrel Rigney, Brandon has been one of the side’s best through 2023 so far.

A hard runner who has been a force up front with his ability to win the ball in the air and on the ground, and finish from anywhere in and around the forward 50.

Has 30 goals and four best player nods in 11 games so far.

7. TOM GEHLING

A star on the ball for Adelaide Lutheran, Gehling has been a big part of his club’s success so far this year.

Gehling is a tireless player through the middle who wins his own footy with ease and racks up clearances for his side.

Also has the ability to hit the scoreboard on occasion, with seven goals and eight best player appearances in 12 games.

6. SCOTT BURNETT

(Greenacres)

Currently in his second season with the Dragons, Burnett remains one of the most impactful players in division six.

A consistent player on the ball who can win the footy in the contest and hit teammates anywhere around the ground.

Has six best player nods and three goals in eight games.

5. SHANE HARVEY

(Marion)

The former Brighton gun has been a major boost for Marion- his junior club – since arriving ahead of the 2023 season.

A strong, athletic and experienced player who can have a significant impact as a tough and skilled player on the ball and also move up the ground to kick goals.

Has four best player performances and 11 goals in his 12 games so far.

4. TERREL RIGNEY

Arriving in the pre-season after a strong year with Ardrossan in the Yorke Peninsula, Rigney has been a machine for Ingle Farm.

The former North Adelaide player is a skilled and versatile star by hand and foot who can play on the ball, along the flanks or up front as a dangerous forward who takes strong marks and finishes from anywhere.

Has 55 majors and six best player nods through 16 games.

3. PATRICK O’DEA

(Marion)

Marion’s focal point up front, O’Dea has produced another standout year for the Rams.

A tireless player who competes well in the air and at ground level, O’Dea has brilliant awareness around goal and hurts defenders with smart leads.

Has 59 goals to lead division six as well as eight best player nods in 16 games.

2. DANIEL WEETRA

(Para Hills)

An electric and skilled forward, Weetra has produced one of his best seasons yet in the Adelaide Footy League, leading division seven as well as the rest of the league in goalkicking.

An athletic and smart player who can fly for big marks or win the footy at ground level to either create for teammates or hit the scoreboard himself with his elite finishing ability.

Has a huge 99 goals and seven best player mentions in 16 games so far.

1. ADAM VARCOE

The former Geelong and Central District man and brother of Travis Varcoe has been at his best for Smithfield since joining in the pre-season, remaining at a consistent and dominant level in division six.

A star on the ball who can run all day, Varcoe is one of the best users in the competition who wins the footy in the contest and either deals to teammates with ease under pressure or hits the scoreboard himself.

Has 10 best player nods and eight goals through his 13 games.
