ADELAIDE BLUE EAGLES 4
SOUTH ADELAIDE 0
A Emanuele Testardi hat-trick extended Adelaide Blue Eagles’ lead on top of the Premier League soccer table in a 4-0 rout of bottom side South Adelaide at Marden on Monday night.
The Italian No.9 netted all three goals in a first-half demolition of the winless Panthers.
Testardi delicately chipped the keeper for his first, tapped home a second 10 minutes later and completed the hat-trick in the 41st.
Hamish McCabe neatly curled a fourth home just before half-time to cap a 45-minute demolition of the Panthers.
Testardi has been a revelation since joining ABE. He missed the first two games of the season due to international clearance delays and was unable to get on the scoresheet on debut.
Since then the 28-year-old netted once against Para Hills, a double over Adelaide Olympic and finally the triple on Monday night.
It moves Testardi to second on the goals tally behind Raiders’ striker Terence Carter (seven).
ABE is now four points clear of a bunch of seven sides from second to eighth – all incredibly locked on 10 points.
Campbelltown City leads the pack, ahead of Croydon, Adelaide United Youth, Raiders, MetroStars, Olymic and Adelaide Comets.
CAMPBELLTOWN CITY 2
METROSTARS 0
An all-round team performance was the key to Campbelltown City’s impressive 2-0 Premier League win over MetroStars at Steve Woodcock Centre on Friday night.
The Red Devils went up 1-0 in the 40th minute after an own goal to Metro’s Rocky Callisto took the lead going into the break.
City continued to press in the second half and in the 79th minute a ball into the box resulted in veteran Iain Fyfe finishing off with a nice header to give Red Devils a 2-0 win.
Campbelltown coach Joe Mullen was pleased with the result against a quality MetroStars outfit.
“We started well and continued throughout the game and finished off well, it was a win against a very well organised team with quality players,” Mullen said.
Campbelltown moved to second on the table and MetroStars fell to sixth.
ADELAIDE CITY 3
ADELAIDE OLYMPIC 1
Adelaide City moved out of the relegation zone and into a positive points tally for the first time this season with a 3-1 victory over Adelaide Olympic on Monday night at Adelaide City Park.
The Black and Whites overcame 10-man Olympic without coach Michael Matricciani, away on a 10-day coaching mission in Spanish soccer capital Barcelona.
Joseph Costa opened the scoring 15 minutes in before Mamadi Kamara hit back for the visitors shortly after. But that would not be the last of former City player Kamara’s impact on the game.
Kamara received a yellow in the 37th minute and, just four minutes later, was shown another to leave Olympic a man down.
The Black and Whites took advantage as Nicholas Bucco netted just before the break and Evan Kostopoulos made certain of the result in the second half.
The Black and Whites are 10th on the ladder after beginning the season on -6 points due to player payment breaches in 2017 and 2018.
PARA HILLS 2
WEST ADELAIDE 1
Para Hills coach Barney Smith described his team’s first win for the Premier League season – against West Adelaide at home on Saturday – as “not the prettiest” but “big” in the circumstances.”
In a battle between ninth and 10th on the table, the Knights prevailed 2-1.
Para Hills made the perfect start in the fifth minute when Tyler Bailey scored his first goal of the year with a penalty conversion.
West Adelaide then dominated the rest of the first half and scored from a free kick in injury-time.
Matthew Marchioro scored the winner in the 72nd minute after capitalising on the ball rebounding off a save from West’s keeper.
“With both teams desperate to get a win, we prepared for a scrappy contest and we dominated the game early and should’ve scored more goals than we did,” Smith said.
“Our second half was really good and we got on top in the second half, put the pressure on West Adelaide and held on for the win, which was very pleasing.
“(It was) not the prettiest of wins but a big win in the circumstances.”
CROYDON 1
ADELAIDE UNITED YOUTH 1
It will be awkward at the dinner table for the Costanzos this week after Croydon coach Ang Costanzo’s son, Domenic, scored the equaliser for Adelaide United youth in its 1-1 draw with the Kings at the Parks on Saturday.
Croydon broke the deadlock in the 71st minute when Antoni Trimboli scored from a set piece.
Domenic then equalised 10 minutes later to ensure United took a share of the points.
“It wasn’t our best performance of the year but we managed to grind out a result and we will take the draw and move onto next week,” Ang Costanzo said.
“I wasn’t happy at the time for my son to score the equaliser but after the game it was all good and I congratulated him on his goal.”
ADELAIDE COMETS 2
RAIDERS 0
It was a dream start for new Adelaide Comets coach Kon Antoniou with a 2-0 win over in-form Raiders in his first game in charge at Croatian Sports Centre on Saturday night.
Allan Welsh and Andreas Wiens each scored in the second half for Comets.
Antoniou took the reins from the outgoing Theo Tsiounis
Comets are now eighth on the table while Raiders slipped to fifth.
