TEA Tree Gully City’s reward for pulling off one of the biggest upsets in FFA Cup SA history is another clash with a top flight giant.
The Sunday amateur league club was drawn to host National Premier Leagues SA side Raiders in the second round of the state-based knockout competition.
Wednesday’s round-of-32 pairing came three days on from the Gullies’ shock 1-0 victory over former National Soccer League champion West Adelaide.
Tea Tree Gully player Matthew Else said his teammates were relishing another big test on home turf against the 10-time cup winner.
“We’re looking forward to it,” said Else, during The Advertiser live stream of the draw.
“It was an excellent day (beating West).
“The whole club got around it and the community.
“The players played to a plan on the day and we were lucky enough to jag a 1-0 win.
“The celebrations in the club were long and hard afterwards.
“It’s reverberated around the country so the club’s enjoying the moment in the spotlight.”
In other standout ties, Adelaide City will be out for revenge when it visits reigning NPL SA champion Campbelltown City in a repeat of last season’s top-flight grand final.
Cup holder Adelaide Comets face a potential banana skin under new coach Kon Antoniou as they travel to face Sunday amateur side Pontian Eagles.
The draw also delivered three mouth-watering local derbies.
Northern rivals Para Hills and Salisbury United will square off at the Paddocks, while amateur foes Brahma Lodge and Elizabeth Downs go head-to-head at Cockburn Green.
Two unlikely foes will meet in the east when 10-time state champion Adelaide Blues Eagles plays Collegiate League Rostrevor Old Collegians.
Last year’s cup giant-killer Ghan Kilburn City faces a tough task away to top-tier South Adelaide and seven-time holder Croydon Kings host State League Two Cove.
All ties will be played on the Easter long weekend from April 18-22. Match dates and venues will be announced in the coming days.
The winner of the FFA Cup SA will join A-League side Adelaide United and NPL champion Campbelltown in the cup’s national round-of-32.
