Parents of Happy Valley Primary School students have given their children a boost on their first day of school this year.
On Sunday, adults flocked to the gates of the school – which had been victim to an act of vandalism just a month prior – to adorn the grounds with heartfelt messages.
“You are a brave little lion. The whole world is going to hear you roar,” said one.
“When you believe in yourself, the world believes in you too,” another read.
Less than two weeks ago, vandals went on an overnight rampage, smashing windows and trashing a room.
Nearly 30 windows were smashed by more than 100 golf balls, causing “tens of thousands of dollars” in damage, according to Education Minister Blair Boyer.
“This is absolutely disgusting behaviour. This kind of stuff is stupid and mindless,” he said.
“When you hear about adults vandalising and damaging things, their (the kids) young minds don’t understand why adults would do that.”
Happy Valley Primary School principal, Paul Taylor, remained optimistic that “events such as this will not damage our vibrant school spirit,”
“Happy Valley Primary School has a strong community,” he said.
