A Parafield Gardens man has faced court with drink driving with a six-year-old child in the car.
Todd Michael Williams, 28, was driving to McDonald’s with an ex-partner and her child on July 30 when police pulled him over on Honeypot Road, Noarlunga Downs.
At around 3.20am, Williams submitted to a drug and alcohol test and recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.094.
This week, Williams pleaded guilty to the charge at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court.
A police prosecutor told the court Williams told police he’d had seven cans of Woodstock bourbon at a friend’s house.
“(Williams) said he thought he would have been over he limit and knew that he shouldn’t have driven,” he said.
Williams told the court he had been drinking because he had not been intending to drive.
“I had been drinking at (my ex-partner’s) cousin’s house, (she) wanted to go home which was approximately a 2km drive,” he said.
“I was supposed to be driving the child home, the mother of the child wanted McDonald’s and against my better judgment I said yes.”
Magistrate Teresa Anderson convicted Williams of driving with prescribed alcohol with a child under 16 present.
He was fined $900.
