Residents have called the removal of part of a popular boat ramp a ‘disgrace’ despite the fact that it is disintegrating.
Yankalilla Council will remove the ‘finger’ at the Cape Jervis boat ramp after it was “highly recommended” by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport.
“Council understands the importance of the finger and will be considering a report at the September council meeting to seek state government funding to replace the infrastructure as a priority,” Mayor Simon Rothwell said.
“This is a really important step in building the relationship between council and DIT to progress the much-needed improvements to the boat launching facilities at Cape Jervis.”
While locals are happy to see the aged infrastructure to go, one Facebook user said it was all a little too late.
“What an absolute disgrace that boat ramp is, it fails all safety requirements, no council would put up with these conditions in their workplace but the council are happy to allow ratepayers to live with that derelict boat ramp,” they wrote.
“Let’s just wait for some poor child to seriously injure themselves before you can manage to make a decision.”
DIT are in the process of removing the finger. The boat ramp will remain open.
