State Labor MP Chris Picton has lashed out at anti-vaxxers who plastered his Seaford Meadows office with posters yesterday.

The posters carried an anti-vaccination message and featured the face of a young girl.

Mr Picton took to Facebook after the attack to hit back at the vandals, and let them know their propaganda would fail to have any influence over him.

“You can plaster my office. You can troll my social media. You can bombard my inbox,” Mr Picton said in his post.

“But you won’t convince me that children shouldn’t be vaccinated against deadly diseases.

“You won’t convince me that we shouldn’t listen to scientists and doctors instead of whatever you’ve found on the internet.

“Save your posters and your propaganda for someone else.”

Mr Picton told The Advertiser it was especially disappointing to see people pushing anti-vaccination views while the world was dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Particularly when the hope for much of the world at the moment is to get a vaccine so that we can get back to some sort of normality across the world,” he said.

“I’m not going to be pressured or pushed by this sort of behaviour, online bullying or chain letters.

“I’m going to listen to the experts, scientists and doctors who have solid evidence behind the need for vaccines and the needs to protect children and our whole community.”

Mr Picton’s Facebook post quickly attracted more than 900 likes and 1000 comments.

The comments were divided in their support and anger towards Mr Picton.

“Another politician that has forgotten who he works for,” one response said.

“His opinion and beliefs isn’t what is important here. It’s the opinion of the people.”

Another said: “Chris Picton, I agree with you. I watched a friend’s daughter with whooping cough. She soon had her three children vaccinated.”
