Southern suburbs crime: Hair salon targeted by suspected arson, teenager arrested after car chase

Police have released vision of suspected arson at a southern suburbs hair salon while four people have been arrested for driving offences, including 17-year-old boy. See the weekend crime wrap here.

Southern suburbs police have released CCTV footage of a suspected arson at a Woodcroft hair salon while a range people have been arrested from driving offences.

A teenage boy led police on a car chase while a man and woman crashed a stolen car in what was a busy weekend for southern officers.

Woodcroft

Police have released CCTV footage of the moment Melt Hair Studio was set alight in a suspected arson.

The Woodcroft hair salon was set alight around 6.45am on Saturday August 22.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control but not before it gutted the salon and spread to neighbouring doctor and dental clinics.

The footage shows the partial registration of a black sedan, possibly a Holden Astra park on Sir James Hardy Way.

Two men are seen to get out of the car and force their way into the salon before throwing a fuel container and accelerant into the shop.

A fire is ignited and the two men run back to the vehicle, then driving south along Sir Jame Hardy Way.

Morphettville

A 17-year-old was arrested after allegedly leading police on a brief pursuit through the southern suburbs on Monday morning.

Around 5am, police attempted to stop a Ford sedan on Marion Road, Ascot Park.

The car sped off and was pursued until driving down a down-end at Appleby Road, Morphettville.

The driver tried to run off but was arrested at the scene.

The Torrensville boy was charged with a number of traffic offences including engaging in a police pursuit and breaching learner’s permit conditions.

Mitcham

A man and woman have been arrested after crashing a stolen car in Mitcham on Sunday morning.

An Aldinga Beach woman and man from Mount Gambier were arrested after allegedly crashing the white Subaru Outback which was stolen from Brooklyn Park last week.

A Dog Operations member spotted the stolen station wagon on Unley Road, Hyde Park just before 5am on Sunday.

Police followed the wagon for a short time before it took off and was last spotted on Belair Road.

A member of the public contact police just minutes later to report a white station wagon had collided with the fence of a home at the intersection of Angas Road and Frimley Grove.

The driver and passenger allegedly fled the scene of the Hawthorn crash.

Police Dog Stoic and his handler searched the area and found the pair hiding in bushes behind the Mitcham Memorial Library.

The 31-year-old man was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and driving disqualified, did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 28-year-old woman was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and granted bail to appear in the court later this year.

Eden Hills

A 46-year-old man from the State’s Far North has been arrested after driving erratically at Eden Hills on Saturday afternoon.

Numerous reports of a white Mitsubishi Pajero driving erratically in the area were made by members of the public.

Police located the car driving into the dead-end Roseberry Avenue and colliding with a Hyundai sedan.

It continued driving even after police where able to spike the four wheel drive’s tyres on Shepherds Hill Road.

The car headed towards Ashmore Road where police and police dog Ben located the man.

The man was charged with driving disqualified, dangerous driving to escape police, failing to stop at a crash scene and driving under the influence.

Police are appealing to the public for any information or dashcam footage of the car driving dangerously earlier in the day.
