South Adelaide could make its first SANFL Grand Final in 35 years but first must win against Port Adelaide on Sunday

ON the eve of South Adelaide’s biggest match in more than 20 years, we talk to three of the Panthers’ young guns about their secret to success – and how they will keep the winning streak alive.

THESE three young Panthers are not letting South Adelaide Football Club’s fairytale year get ahead of them.

First, they need to topple the Magpies in this Sunday’s SANFL preliminary final at Adelaide Oval before they start thinking about taking on Norwood in the Grand Final on September 21.

Sam Overall, 19, Caleb Daniel, 18, and Jake Veide, 24 – star recruits for Brad Gotch’s revived Panthers side – say the formula to their winning streak is simple.

The head coach has told his players all year to take it slow – one game at a time.

“Brad has told us to play the game when it comes and it’s worked,” Daniel said.

“We’re all sticking to the routine because it’s what’s been working for the last six weeks.”

The simple formula has seen the side get further than it has in more than 20 years.

Overall, who will play his sixth game for the Panthers on Sunday, said the club’s renewed focus on player development had also been crucial to its success.

“The responsibility is back on the players … we all want to perform,” he said.

Veide agreed.

“We all take it one week at a time but we’re ready for Sunday,” he said.

“We’re committed to doing the best for ourselves and our supporters.”

The club is hoping to end its 50-year premiership drought this year.

The last time the Panthers won a premiership was in 1964 against Port Adelaide.
