A 60-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to drink driving saying she’s “old enough to know better”.
The Christies Beach Magistrates Court heard Sheralee Gail Heard, of Oaklands Park, had been drinking champagne and beers with friends before driving to her son’s house on June 21.
When pulled over by police Heard recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.207.
“At about 3pm she had four glasses of champagne and a beer at a friends house, she then called an Uber to her home address where she had another beer,” a police prosecutor said.
“She thought she was fine to drive to her son’s residence when she was stopped by police.”
Heard – who appeared by phone – told the court she hadn’t gotten in her car since the offence.
“(I’m) old enough to know better,” she said.
“I’ve learnt my lesson I can tell you.”
Heard was issued a 12-month instant loss of license at the time of the offence.
Magistrate Susan O’Connor said the reading was very large and held high consequences.
“At 0.15 scientists and chemists say you’re obviously affected by alcohol, your motor co-ordination, your ability to speak, whether your eyes are dilated and that’s what leads to the 12-month disqualification,” she said.
Ms O’Connor convicted Heard and fined her the minimum $1100 and $500 in impounding fees.
