For years Kingston Park residents have been crying out for a spot to catch up and enjoy a coffee.
That pipedream will soon be a reality with the City of Holdfast Bay recently endorsing designs and approving construction of a new $1m, 42-seat kiosk, alongside the Brighton Beachfront Holiday Park.
The approved design included indoor and outdoor dining with a take away servery plus public toilets.
“For years, the residents of Kingston Park have campaigned for a kiosk that will serve their local community,” Mayor Amanda Wilson said.
“And after years of consultation with Kaurna and the residents, plans have been approved for this permanent addition to the area.
“The views from this location are magnificent and this new building and kiosk are going to be a great asset to the area and to Holdfast Bay as a whole.”
Two caravan park sites will be removed to make way for the kiosk building while the car park will remain as it is currently.
The announcement was welcomed by the local community, with many taking to social media to say it was about time the community finally had a amenity to be proud of.
“Well done everyone! It’s been eight years of frustration and disappointment for the community, but finally the promised end result looks superb!” Alison Cormack wrote on a Facebook post by 5049 Coastal Community celebrating the announcement.
“It’s about time Kingston Caravan Park and surrounds had a kiosk,” Catharine Lee also wrote.
However other locals claimed there was enough infrastructure in place and they enjoyed the facilities as they were.
“Nothing wrong with the existing Oceans kiosk, which was a fantastic community hub and appropriate considering that both the Surf and Yacht clubs also need patronage,” Stephen Keenan replied.
“Can’t see where people are going to park to use the facilities as existing car parks are already at capacity.”
The new facility is expected to be built and operational by 2023.
